huge fan of where i live, i'm glad - given that i bought a house here a couple of years ago. Re financial stuff, $$ are far from being my primary motivation. I can live well cheaply, one of the upsides of loads of travel and climbing dirtbagging over the years I guess? Still dunno re academia, i was at the pub talking about just that with a recently confirmed (=tenured) friend of mine on Friday - pros and cons...

also, ran yet another half marathon ten days ago. Cut another 2 minutes. Went out far too fast and was dead after three km (around 11 minutes ooops), spent the next ten km trying to recover and eventually reached the finish line in one piece.
