By analyszing your post I think you should stick with 15-20 % preflop 10 handed. Around 20% shorthanded.

Just do not get carried away with %. If you like to play a lot of hands- you could study and practice playing a bit looser.

It all comes down to your skill on turn and river play. If you are uncomfortable on those streets you should play very tight- but hyperaggressive.

I think it really depends on what you are playing (limit/NL) and what the blinds are, is this a tournament or a straight game?

In a tourny I'm going to see a lot more flops early on when they are cheap than I will later on as they get more expensive. Same thing if it's a Limit game and I can get in cheap with an ok opening hand.

In a NL tourny overall I'll probably see under 20% when it's all said and done.

i play less than 20% myself in nl tournys im more or less jus trying to get different ppls veiw points maybe try their way for a bit n c how it works i dont really mind wat kinda hold em its in as i try to play limit, pot n no limit to improve all parts of my game so anyones opinion is welcome

Thought you were talking about ring games.

Tourney players are terrible at turn and river play. If u want to you can experiment playing position more and take down pots on those streets when you develop reads and timing tells.

Tight early is safe and profitable- but not optimal. You want some of the fish money and they bust early.

theres exceptions to this in atom's case where he's playing freerolls (and in some of the low buy in tourneys I've played), in that when i was playing them , very often you could end up with up to 8 people sitting out. If theres lots sitting out you want to be seeing more flops especially if you have a large stack and passive players also on the table so that you can steal the blinds .Just don't take this as an absolute , adjust to your table and the players who are /aren't at it.

this is something i belive i need to think of more often!!!
i get into the "tight is right" mode and then have a much harder time
getting chips from players with much bigger stacks than mine
in the middle parts of tournys.and these players are harder to get
chips from ,,they are not the fish but the ones who got the fishes chips

ohh,,answer to OP is.. in MTT im seein %18 10 handed %26 6handed

I think your %(of flops seen) is really going to vary on certain factors. Buy-in, aggression level of the table, what kind of players have position on you, what stage of the tournament you are at, and how you're running at the given moment. Certainly it could be too high (loose calls) or too low (missed playable hands)

But I'd suggest reviewing your HH and looking for both. You could be making both mistakes and have your % balance out.

Im opedipus bitch, the original balla.
    [x] Best thread ever.

Btw, I hate being a troll.. So I apologize for that. But seriously guys... Joblah123 had one of the best responses in the thread.

First off, OP you came about this in absolute wrong manner. Yes, poker is a game of incomplete information; however, this doesn't mean you should form questions and leave out any sort of specifics at all. As you should already know nearly everything in poker depends on certain factors/questions/situations that must be considered. This question is no different.

You left out critical information like whether the game is 6m/HU/FR, and that is obviously important. Please try to provide as much information as possible in your questions (within reason), so that you can get intelligent responses, instead of people (no offense) just throwing out anything and everything they "know" or have heard.

But to answer your question, I play whatever % of hands I feel is +ev. If I feel a hand is +ev in a situation, then I play it. If I don't, then I throw it away. It's really that simple. Asking others what percentage of hands they play so you can "try it out for a bit" is probably going to end up bad. You might not have the same experience as others, you might think "well... he plays 5% more hands than me... That must mean he is playing this hand and this hand", and you could make the totally wrong adjustment and choose the wrong hands in absolutely wrong situations.

Instead of doing the above, understand where the value from a hand is going to be coming from, then understand situations in which you can play a less than premium hand profitably (3betting air, calling with SCs, calling broadways, etc). Just start out tight in early position and begin adding more hands in LP, and as you get more comfortable opening a wider range and playing that wider range postflop, begin adding in more hands that appear to be profitable (and I don't mean add the 27o that is up in your DB because you misclick shoved preflop and flopped quads).

i understand what ur saying XxstacksxX but the question isnt meant to be taking so seriously really what im trying to find out is do ppl in general play tighter hands in online poker compared to live poker i know everything in this game is based on what you get at any giving moment and positioning and if every hand i get gives me pocket aces im going to see 100% of the flop but over time your % will level out at an average

Information spreads so quickly these days bc of books, internet, tv etc.

More and more players seem to be playing TAG style. You still have the fishes to beat, but the game is getting harder. (NL holdem)

Pondering about how you will adjust to TAG style players is well worth the time. How can we exploit ABC TAG style?
