    Default Poll

Ive been playing ringgames online now for about 6mo and doing decent. I guess? My question is what is everyone's goal every time they play and what do u consider a good dayof winnings. 2x, 3x buy in?

I try not to think of nightly gains/losses. Its hard not to look at my BR at the end of the evening and feel good/bad.

I look at how i'm playing. If I'm playing well then I'm not quiting even if i'm up 100BB's. If the conditions are right exploit them while you can.

If i'm on a bad run/ tilt I'll quit regardless of whats going on.

A single session doesn't mean that much to me. I mean yeah, its great to go on a run but since poker is a long term project I just try to leave every session with more then I started with. If I am playing well then I will keep playing until I am tired. When I'm tired I tend to make some mistakes so I quit. Usually tilt or fatigue are reasons for me to stop, not necessarily the amount won or lost.

From a low stakes LHE point of view, you really dont want to leave the table with less money than you came in. If you've been playing well and suffered numerous bad beats, then maybe my goal would be to get as close to break even as possible.

A good night for me is being ahead in money, I dont usually quit unless I have to or I feel adequate in how I'm played.

This thinking will put you on an inevitiable course for the -50+ BB 6+ hour session from hell. It starts off with cold cards + bad beats and ends with you LAgging it up to get back even. Sometimes you get there. The night you don't will be a poker experience you won't soon forget.

If the table sucks or you're tried or you're titlting, be a man. Book the loss and call it a night.

To find good table(s), play the best game of poker I know how and learn from my mistakes. Being results oriented over the short-term is a sure path to tilt.

That being said, I still let the results effect me too much and will try to get even a little...

I play mostly $30 SnGs... An average day is about $100-200. A good day is $200-300. Some of that profit is also b/c I play 2-other non-SnG ring tables...

I use Poker Tracker and keep a spreadsheet with buyin/profit/hours played - kind of redundant....but I just started using PT and feel a little more comfortable w/ my spreadsheet. I have been playing online poker for 2.5 months now and my goal was to cashout $500/mo.....for October I have increased the goal to $1000/mo.
SnG's and MTT's have been cold for me lately so I play 2-3 @ $5+1 or $10+1 tourneys a session then go to a ring game $.5/1 NL to win back the buyins lost at the tourneys. I'm booking somewhere in the neighborhood of + $50-70 a session (not much in relation to the standards around here)....have been up 10 of the last 12 sessions and the two I was down where for $24-25. It is very hard not to try and break even before you quit - you just have realize you are playing poorly/desperate, call it quits and ponder what went wrong so you can change it the next evening. I suppose it is a long was to say I don't really have a daily goal...more of a target working towards a monthly goal. I am going to have a tough time making my October goal...but it is attainable - I really need to improve my SnG play though.

if you ever get into the mentality of "winning it back", don't play. take a break.

if some kind catches a miracle 2 outta on the river and cleans out your buyin, and you're cool with it, then that's ok. you can "win it back" from the fish.

but if you're thinking "f*ck that mofo i'm gonna win back my money from that lucky sonova gun" then yes you should quit for the night. put him on your buddy list and take him down next time.

When I first started playing I was winning about $50 a night at limit 50c tables but my game was not improving at all.

These days I play a lot more tourneys and my game is imoproving a lot but I'm not making money as consistently. But I'm happy at the end of a session if I've learnt something new or feel my game has improved.

As someone above said; poker is a long term thing so I'm playing with that thought foremost in my mind.

I consider it day of winnings when I break even while learning a valueble lesson, applying knowledge gained from books or discover leaks in my game.

Because I started from nearly nothing, even if I go through a bad day, I remind self where I started at and feel good about it.

but nothing like 8x buyin rushes you get ocasionally to build confidence and stuff.
