The Matrix Werewolf - Game thread



The Matrix theme is for flavor and is not necessarily indicative of roles.

This game is based off of the Pick Your Poison Open Game Setup. In it, the Wolves choose three roles out of five before the game begins to be given to the village. Here's the link on Mafia wiki.

Rules:
- No editing posts.
- Wolves will have 24 hour chat which will start prior to the game for them to "pick their poison" for village PR roles.
- Village PR roles will only be mod revealed upon death.
- No night posting. At stated EOD, stop posting, even if I don't post that day has ended. SOD will be announced in the thread.
- Votes at :00 will be good and votes at :01 will not be counted.
- No discussing the game anywhere outside of this thread.
- Lynches and rescinds are submitted in bold, e.g., Lynch lilrascal.
- Days will last roughly 48 hours unless majority is reached. Nights are 24 hours. Days on weekends will be extended if requested.
- Night actions are submitted by PM to me. Wolves can submit night actions via the den if they wish.
- No posting in the game thread after death.
- If I've missed anything or you have any mod specific questions PM me, don't ask me in thread as it may be ignored.

As some of you may be aware, this game includes vanilla villagers. Well, I happen to be one of them. Some players are wolves but I am a vanilla villager. I have not been a vanilla villager for many games now but I can assure you that this game, I am a vanilla villager.

And it's not about grace. It's about spazz. Why would a wolf soft claim special and then hard claim vanilla after two posts? There would be literally no point in doing so, and it can literally only happen if drew thinks to himself "I know I'll post something so fucking stupid and random that only boog will suspect me".

TWTBW is too wolfy, not too spazzy. spazzy does not equal wolfy.

wolfy implies an ulterior motive. If drew had just left it at the first post, he leaves all sorts of doors open from a wolf pov... he could be laying the foundations for a fakeclaim, or he can backtrack saying it was an attempt to get the nom. But to hardclaim vanilla next post, it implies he's not thinking about this from a wolfy pov.

The fact you're unable to see village hints when they smack you in the face, it has me thinking maybe you don't want to find reasons for people to be villager, especially those easy to push like drew.

I was not meaning to "call him out." My intent vis-a-vis BID was just to lament the loss of dhubs, and note the subtle difference between BID's post and dhub's usual entrance to a game.

FWIW, I thought BID's first post was legit. It could be wolfy from someone else, and BID has shown growth as a player in the last few games, but I don't think it's what he's about as a wolf.

I think it's a terrible move if it gives the wolves real information w.r.t. special hunting. I think it's a terrible move if somehow the 3 specials are identified and BID is alive... as his lie is obv. at that point. Whatever his team, he's lynch bait at that point.

I wonder if BID pulled a double-ruse on us, but his later posts emphasizing that his first post is legit have me thinking that BID's first post is legit.

idk, his post pretty much echoed my initial thought about gabe's post, only I thought about it longer and decided it wasn't worth commenting on because I could see him doing that as villager or wolf.

The only reason I have so far to suspect mojo is he isn't a villager read of mine already. But it's too early to consider that alone to be wolfy.

rilla seems like page 1 rilla. I'll start to believe anyone claiming to have a read on rilla by page 2 or 3. He usually can't make it to D2 without giving his wolfy self away.

boozh kinda the opposite of rilla... I mean, boozh usually seems totes wolfy to start the game, but by EOD1, he's shown his villager knees. Still, I agree that boozh seems villagery.

I think baudib's push against me lacks a sense of my history with gabe. I've been defending gabe on D1 for most of a year now. I also pride myself on being able to read him. If he (gabe) is going to go and change his meta, then that puts a wrench in my motor, and I don't like it. If he's gonna flip wolf twice in a row, then this is a nice way to open this game and he certainly knows it and would use it.

Mostly, though. This stated strategy of his doesn't seem like a good way to win if he's a villager, and it does seem like a good way to win if he's a wolf. If there's one thing about gabe, it's that he always plays to win. If he's going to start valuing meta over strategy, then I have every right to be suspicious of him being out of character - i.e. wolfy - especially until I'm proven wrong to be suspicious.

So you're trading a ~70% winrate for a ~30% winrate (raw odds of flipping W in a game).
Winning as a wolf is worth the big monies, I guess.

man its been so long since ive played....i tried to read the game from 2 games ago (america vs russia) to get some reads but at page 8 it was still day 1, so i have taken a break for the time being to go and shoot myself in the face.

BID thinks that gator's "derail" of the boog momentum is wolfy, while baudib thinks it contributes to gator being villagery. In my opinion i tihnk that it leans towards villagery, given that one second he is defending BID, and then he defends the person who is "attacking" BID.

So far my only strong opinion is that baudib seems to have the most villagery tone and is doing things to move the discussion forward, although i have never played with him before.

the thing is, there are always more villagers than wolves. to make the most people happy, you should try and play ultra villager. most of the time, you are a villager, so always playing ultra villager gains you mucho win equity averaged across all the games. but like MMM pointed, winning as a wolf is worth the big monies. not all wins are equal

also its cool as a villager to test the boundaries of posting. its impossible to experiment as a wolf because of the word paranoia i get (and i assume others get). where every sentence you reread and go "shit are they going to see how plainly i'm a wolf?"

i'm freeing myself from that. or at least trying... god knows i couldnt type a post with this detail and tone as a wolf
