Because gator is on the "rilla fakeclaimed as villa" side of the fence. Rilla, as rascal's buddy, would now know if gator is a wolf or villager when he claims. So from rilla's pov, gator's wolfbro could've ended up as poe'd pair to rilla's village bro. At least until this was all cleared, anyway.

Because a villager making that play is bad.

Wolf says "my partner is villager A".

Villager A says "hell no my partner is villager B".

Villager B confirms this.

Village lynches A/B then follows up on the wolf next day = WIN.

Lets say Villager C tries the same play (D is his actual partner).

If C picks a villager as his fake pair then it doesn't bother the wolves, A/B then C/D get lynched.

If C picks a wolf then I suppose it could work, but it seems very chancy. The wolves can still get C/D lynched first then win on day 2.

You also seem to be of the mindset that rascal and wuf were faking. Actually it was rilla who was faking, and wuf and rascal let it go until gator showed up. Wuf's comments at me during this time are consistent with that mindset.
