Damn. I was in Abu Dhabi a few weeks ago on vacation. Wife and I stayed at the St. Regis on Saadiyat island for 3 days. Visited the mosque which was awesome in the most literal sense of the word. Other than that we hung out on the beach and made a night trip to the marina to some sports bar (Stars n Bar or something) to watch the Arsenal game. Sorry we missed you.

Was in Dubai (bleh) for a wedding (Indian weddings are now my favorite) and made a side trip to check out Abu Dhabi, for context on why we were there.

Indian weddings are absolutely the best. Two big things that threw me off:

    1. They have no sense of punctuality whatsoever. If the invitation says you can show up at 10:00 and the ceremony will be at 11:00, that means people won't be showing up until 11:00, the ceremony will be at 12-ish, and people will still be wandering through partway through the ceremony.

    2. When you're in "line" for food or drinks at the reception, you have to be in it to win it. There's no shame in taking a place closer to the bartender if someone gives you the opportunity to cut them off because someone else will if you won't, and they will most definitely do it to you.
