I'm pretty sure the Greenbelt/College Park area is very safe. You're quite a bit outside the city there. Just for frame of reference, you're equidistant between Ronald Reagan Airport (DC's downtown airport) and BWI (an airport just south of Baltimore). I mean, you're within a half hour of each, so you're in the mix of things, but DC stereotypes won't really apply to where you are (except things will be expensive and there'll be a shitton of traffic).
