I like gin.. def my favorite hard alc. Gin and tonic ( if I plan to drink a lot, and in the heat, I use soda water instead) is the summer drink of choice.

for champizzle... try Gruet, it is from NM or AZ so obv it's a sparkling wine, but the family running the vineyard is the real deal and Gruet gets high marks from the even the snobs and you can grab a bottle for under $15... srsly...

After being stuck on Maker's bourbon for a while, I've ventured out a little into this Devils Cut by Jim Beam.

Tried an airplane bottle at a tailgate a few weeks back and drank some more tonight. This stuff is actually incredibly good and will definitely put some hair on your chest.

Plus the story behind the name is pretty cool imo.

As bourbon ages, a portion of the liquid is lost from the barrel due to evaporation—that's the "Angel's Share." After aging, when the bourbon is dumped out of the barrel, a certain amount of whiskey is left trapped within the wood of every barrel.
We call that the "devil's cut."

To create Jim Beam® Devil's Cut™, an extraordinary new bourbon experience, we developed a proprietary process that actually pulls the rich whiskey trapped inside the barrels' wood after they're emptied. We hold this barrel-treated extract until it develops the proper balance of bourbon notes, then blend it with 6 year old bourbon and bottle at 90 proof. The result: a robust, premium bourbon with deep color, aroma and character.
    I like balls.

Yes, bourbon is whiskey made in the US. Scotch is obv. Irish whiskey is neither.

wouldn't disagree with that fix at all, except maybe to give scotch just a little more love vs irish.

Yeah, Rye, Bourbon, Scotch, Irish whiskey, they're all whiskies (or whisky in the case of Scotch because the outlawed "E"s in Scotland in, like, 1348). The difference is what it's made out of (bourbon is usually mostly corn, I say usually because I think we're calling any US whiskey "bourbon" in Canada now whereas Rye is called Rye either because it's mostly made from rye or it's from Canada), where it's made and the process differences that stem from being in those different locations.

M2M, Jameson Original has a taste. It's called fire.

Totally want some Scotch now despite having a stomach bug. Can you drown a virus in alcohol? Probably, right?

get that blood alcohol up until nothing could possibly live under those conditions.

wife got me a bottle of JW double black for my berfday. I expect it to be a pretty decent whiskey that's about $10-$20 overpriced.
  14. #164
Just cracked the new bottle of JW black for the pre Xmas drinks. Not sure what's for the holidays but I'm liking JW for my regular drink

Hears that something is made in America, knows they must put it at the bottom of some list.

    Bourbon is great!

This is total flaw in logic. Viruses don't live in your stomach, they live in your blood stream. Therefore you need to find a hypodermic needle (free ones can be found if you go dumpster diving at a local hospital) put that sweet delicious juice where it can really due the antiseptic action it was meant to do. HTH!

Unfortunately, I am too lazy to type a long review like last year. However, the winner was Jameson Gold Reserve. Furthermore, this year I raelly enjoyed the 18 year old glenfiddich. Def. has more flavor and you can taste that it was aged in a win barrel. The 12 year old whisky is shit and you should stay away. The jameson 18 is fine but I didn't think it was $20 more value than the gold. Gold was super easy to drink. Happy Holidays all.

  20. #170
Nice. I've been thinking about buying a bottle of Glenfiddich to add to my collection. Will check out the 18.

I just had Lagavulin 16 the other night. Was incredibly awesome, probably the best single malt I've drank so far.

This stuff is pure gold in a bottle. Never had a whisky with so much refinement and elegance along the lines of what I would normally associate with cognac.

Refinement and elegance are words that should never be associated with whiskey.

try it before you diss it. shows what you know seeing you spell whisky with an e.
  24. #174
mind you i envy supa in a way - if you're into unrefined tastes you can just drink the cheapest stuff you can get your hands on. reminds me of this one new year's eve way back when, and the only thing i had the whole night was johnny walker red...

Really all I need to know. Fwiw I've probably been drinking fine and otherwise not so fine whiskeys and whiskys for longer than you've been alive.

Which leads me back to my original point. Drinking is so much more fun once you've removed the snobbishness from it.

Am I just drunk or is Forty Creek Barrell Select >>>> Canadian Club Classic and only two-thirds the price?
  31. #181
fouty creek is defo a quality rye for the price. CC is fine/whatever/meh/overpriced.
  32. #182
Your concurrence makes me feel better about myself, daven. Sorry you got banned.
  33. #183
Glad I could help. Thanks for the sympathy, I'm still waiting on a reason for my ban.

forty creek eh/ i dont think i have a single bottle of alcohol made in canada so perhaps its time i tried this?

Sure, but it's more about the quality/price ratio as opposed to a omg-you-gotta-try-this.

It's fairly bland. It would be really good for pansies who have never drunk straight alcohol before tho, if they want to ease in to their alcoholism with minimal gagging.
  36. #186
yeah I mean rye is great for mixing with coke or ginger ale, and meh straight up. unlike scotch which is meh for mixing and great straight up.
  37. #187
ive been using jameson for mixing

    whats 40 creek price?

a little cheaper than jameson, and even though jameson is a better whiskey than most canadian whiskeys -- I prefer canadian whiskey for mixing. both irish whiskey and scotch should be consumed straightup. I like that rye taste with coke. even more than rum & coke. but for some reason the irish whiskey or scotch...just doesn't mix right imo.

maybe it's cuz I grew up mixing ryes, iunno.
  39. #189
y'all are making me crave a nice scotch whisky. all i have is beer. it'll have to do. i know this ain't the drunk thread. but you'll just have to deal. anyway i'm in germany, and you can argue german beer is like, fucking great and you can mention it in the same sentence as a single malt, in terms of quality. i'm drinking a relatively cheap macrobrewery tipple though, which is a damn shame.

since the sanctity of the drunk thread shall be preserved for actual drunk postings, i'll put this here. played a house concert for a really rich guy last night, was offered his favourite whisky - already i'm getting all excited - then he brings out chivas 12 yo. I'm like o.o wat.

and then i was pleasantly surprised at how pleasant a drink it is, considering its low price. so for parties/home poker games/other random gatherings where I don't want my Islay malts being chugged down - def gonna keep a bottle around for such times.
  43. #193
Let me ruin your Islay for you.
Since somebody told me you can taste the sea in it.
    It is now really recognisable.
Every sip of Islay brings seawater to mind.
  44. #194
it does remind me of the sea, that's true.

    ardbeg >>>>>> whatever you drink
