    Default Tunes for a DJ

I posted this in the music thread but figure I'll get more replies if I make it a thread on its own.

I'm DJing all day tomorrow at my best mate's wedding reception, so I'm looking for new tunes to play out. Any suggestions will either be massively appreciated or mocked, whichever is appropriate. I'm particularly looking for some filthy electro house and some big bass reggae.

Here's a few electro tunes I'll be playing...
DJ Blend - Electro House (Filthy Mix)
Filthy Rich - Got No Brain
    Calvertron - Dwarf Porn

    and some reggae...
Johnny Osbourne - Buddy Bye Bye

Anyone clued up on their reggae? All the reggae I have (and I have immense amounts of it) is pretty much classic reggae; Marley, Perry, Max Romeo etc. I need some that people can fucking dance to, almost drum & bass. Any ideas/links? I've heard some killer reggae before, just never known who the artists were.

Depending on the audience, theirs some good mixes of cocaine by dillinger.

And also the chicken song is a wedding must... with a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, and shake your ass, you dirty sod! It's an English tradition.

I have considered the music man... oompah oompah oompah-pa! And then no wedding is complete without Come On Eileen by Dexy's.

I have some Dillinger, I'd be able to get away with the later in the evening after the family types have gone I think! I'll have a search for some good mixes, cheers for that one.

Erol Alkan & Boys Noize - Lemonade

This is what I'm looking for.

Is there any better way to spend a day than smoking weed, drinking tea and listening to filthy electro house?

No joy on the reggae yet though. Found a decent Dillinger tune I haven't got, but nothing to blow my head off.

For Reggae, check out some of Bob's kids, Damian, Stephen, and Ky-Mani.

Also Buju Banton is good stuff.

Love Shack is crap, if you must link the B52's, then it's got to be Rock Lobster, that's a tune.
I'll happily play that one out.

The Marely Jnrs are not really to my taste, if I'm honest. Damian is not too bad, but it's a bit moody for playing out. The other two I had a quick listen to, they didn't last long.

Already got some Buju, he'll likely get a tune or two played.

Top stuff BooG. I'll be playing an hour or two of funk, this will slip in nicely (seriously). I found a better quality clip to hijack.

As for reggae, play a bunch of dancehall (Sean Paul, Wayne Wonder, etc.).

Well, I got one tune thanks to my thread anyway. Cheers for that. Loving the Slipknot suggestion, someone has taken the time to consider what would be the most inappropriate genre of music to someone asking for electro-house and reggae. Top marks to this man.

    Lady Sovereign can piss off.

Bigred, all I could find was this. Signature tune imo, might play it twice.

    Thanks for indulging me guys.

Not that I'm aware of. I might have a different opinion if I heard some. Industrial to me is metal, not a big fan of metal, though I do like a few artists. I have no idea what future pop is. I like 80's pop, but only because I grew up with it. Most pop is horrible.

Yesterday was fun. That Isley Brothers tune went down a storm. I don't like the Footsteps song though.

Industrial is dark electronic/dance music, not metal. Future pop is like Depeche Mode on speed.

    Like this?

I think Depeche Mode on speed sounds like a horrible concept, but then it might not be so bad. The only thing I can think of that fits that description is something like Polysics.

I love both the tunes I've linked there.

WTF? If you're gonna play the B-52s at a wedding then loveshack is a must. And who considers the Isley bros as funk? Motown or soul maybe, but far from funk imo.

YouTube - Buckcherry~Crazy Bitch. Perfect for later in the evening when everyones drunk and there's a possibility of bride/bridesmaids panties coming off.

Funk to me = funk and soul/motown that fits nicely into a funk set. And a whole heap of funky electronica. I probably played three true funk tunes in the funk set. Who cares? None of the guests complained.

And it wasn't a normal wedding. The bride and groom both have excellent music taste, they didn't want cheesy wedding music, they wanted ska, reggae, dance.

The only time anyone complained was when there was a guitar sample in a psy-trance tune.

I like that Aphex Twin song.

I'm surprised you're not familiar with this stuff, have you heard of VNV Nation or Apoptygma Berzerk? Their most popular stuff is about 8-10 years old by now but they're still evolving. I guess outsiders would refer to it as "goth" but it's not really.

YouTube - Apoptygma Berzerk - Love Never Dies

YouTube - Apoptygma Berzerk - Unicorn

YouTube - VNV Nation - Solitary

This is a VNV remix of a Suicide Commando song, it's one of my favorites:

I wouldn't call it goth, I don't really know what I'd call it. I don't really like it if I'm honest, the drum beats are a bit cheesy, and the synth melodies are horrible. The vocals are ok, reminds me a little bit of Underworld, or perhaps New Order.

You seem to like hard music though, might I suggest some Deathchant? This is pretty fucking industrial, as far as I'm concerned.

I gave Steel Panther a click, it lasted 2 seconds. Jesus that sounded awful.

My DJ companion played this, everyone had a confused look on their face, but they danced.
