Default Thinking villain always flops nuts

How do I stop myself thinking the villain always flops 2-pair or better?

It seems that if I raise preflop with a big pair or AK and I c-bet a dryish board on flop, either the villain folds and I win a small pot, or I get reraised and start thinking he's flopped better than a pair.

I am then normally checking the turn and end up facing a large bet, which may be 2p or a set, or just a steal with top pair (below mine) as I showed weakness by not reraising his flop raise and only checking the turn.

How I understand, it's bad to get stacked (100bb+) with just TP or overpair, but it seems if I continue on turn and river I lose my stack (or most of it) and if I fold he flips over top pair (below mine).

    1) Am I just giving people too much credit at these limits?
    2) Should I be willing to get it all in with overpair on flop as I would probably be up against top pair more often than 2p or better?

It seems that if I try to "protect my hand" I get stacked by 2p or better and if I go into "pot control" mode I let them outdraw me cheaply.

start doing what i did first time here... post hands... admit i play bad... learn to read board, lear to putt people on ranges, learn to value bet, learn to recognize a set, learn to count combos and divide in win, loose, tie and then do the math....learn to play poker

and then you keep learning and playing and getting experience and lear some more... first post hands and you will get help from great players in here.

Thanks for the replies and the above link....I've got some work to do

spoony....are you spoonitnow from PokerStars? If so, nice graph, but why have things kind of flattened out over the last year or so, have the games got harder or what else would you put this down to?

Thanks for your time and some great thoughts/threads you've put on here btw.

A good student always seeks knowledge and isn't afraid to admit he still has a lot to learn.

Aside from putting villains on a range, maybe think about why you're c-betting a dry board with AK and what type of player you're betting in to.

    Well,

    1) I'm c-betting a dry board with my big pairs to either win the pot there and then or get a call from smaller top pairs or overpairs that are below my pair.

    2) I'm c-betting AK to try to rep a big pair and make a second pair to the board fold. I'm then check/folding the turn usually, unless I pick up a pair or atleast a gutshot straight draw to go with my 2 overcards.

Stove some of your hands vs flops and likely ranges. It's really interesting to see when you have alot of equity and when you don't. Also, note people's hands at showdown and what line they took. Putting all that info together should make decisions alot easier.
