    Default {Mental Toughness Thread Derailment}

    If you're impatient in that long line, it's because you can't accept the fact that in reality you're not first in line at this particular moment.
    I am not so sure about that. If I am impatient in that long line, it's because I am steaming about the waste of my precious time caused by whatever f*cked up business or administration not putting sufficient resources to adequately cope with the amount of people in the line. In an ideal economic world, I would walk away and go to the business next door possibly at a little extra cost. In the real world, there is probably no business next door or alternative administration and I can't exercise my homo-economicus choices.

    So should I just sh*t the fuck up and take it up the arse like a sheep or call the boss and flock him in front of everyone for his poor management skills? It mostly won't change the situation, but at least it let the steam out and I spoke my mind. And the idea is that if everyone did it, then it would change the situation. It is similar to queue jumpers in traffic jams, a specialty in the part of the world I live in. I never let these guys squeeze in the queue in front of me (by sticking to the bumper of the guy in front). If everybody did that, there would be no queue jumpers and the world would be a better place. But instead, people behave like sheep and let those assholes squeeze in, so they have good reason to do it...

    As for repeated bad beats, I am well past the outrage, but it still causes me to take breaks longer than they should be ("scared of playing again" thing and finding excuses not to play). I need to get that under control.

    Stop being such an egotistical bitch and wait in line like everyone else wtf. Did you even read the article? You will never succeed with this sort of attitude. Open mind and all that. I'm not trying to be a HUGE dick here, but I don't think you get the point of this thread. You have to learn to accept shit you have no control over, otherwise you'll tilt your fucking BALLS off when some stupid shit happens, and thats not going to help matters at all. So what happens if you just bitch out the manager in that situation? Do you think you're going to get special treatment? No. You're probably going to get your whiney little dick sucked for about 5 minutes and then the manager is going to go back to doing fuck all and you'll be in the same place in line. Congrats.

    That's right. You should passively accept the world as it is and all the abuse being thrown at you without doing anything about it. You'll feel better.

    With that kind of mentality, we would all still be stuck at stone age, if we even would have got there at all. History shows that the world only changes when people fight for it. So fight.

    You're admitting that in reality you can't change the fact that you're losing time spent in line. But you're still mad about it, and wasting even more time and energy to put up an admittedly futile fight. You don't see the problem with this?

    The entire point of the spoon's post is that this shit shouldn't bother you. Let it go, point your energy towards something more constructive and positive. The obvious effect is that you'll be a happier person in general. It will also make you a better poker player because your mind will be better equipped to deal with the swings of the game.

    Nobody is saying to passively take abuse. But do you really equate "standing in line" with "abuse being thrown at you"? Do you feel the same way about losing AA to 72o?

    There is a difference with a bad beat, which is a truly random event that you have 0 control over. This is easy to accept, because you indeed have no control whatsoever over it. However, you can do your (small) bit to try and improve the wait line in that queue (not just for you, for everyone else also), or not give incentives to traffic queue jumpers, or add your vote to the 200 millions other votes in the presidential elections or sign a petition. Your choice if you want to do it or not. Your choice if you want to see the fight as futile or not.

    And yes, I do think that systematically stupidly long queues where people are being taken hostage because they have no choice NOT to queue or alternative options is a form of abuse. Same as I think the guy jumping the queue in the traffic just abused all the people behind him.

    This is different as, for example, a traffic jam caused by an accident, or a queue that happens to be longer than usual because there are just more people that day, but the staff is working at full capacity and as efficiently as possible to process people. No reason to get excited there, indeed. By the same token I also shrug it off when my AA looses to 72o.

    I'll also add as a side note that dictatorships and totalitarian systems work precisely because people take far too much shit before they stand up to it and fail to join strength against the abuser.

    Don't be a sheep. Be a grizzly-bear and rip off the wolf's head.
