    Default $50NL

I had a good day at $25NL. My bankroll reached over $850, so I thought for something interesting I'd have a dabble at $50NL. I played one hand. I was dealt AQ, hit my Q, and was stacked by AA who I had position on and had limped in.

This isn't a whinge story or anything though, because I normally wouldn't have been stacked in this situation, particularly as I kept in the hand when he showed aggression. I would normally have folded, and I kept in for some unkown reason. Maybe it was because I didn't want to lose the money I had already invested or something. I don't know.

Has anyone else had this experience of playing terribly when moving up levels?

At least my $50NL stats in poker tracker look nice and neat. I doubt anyone can do worse than BB/100: (5,000.00)

It's typical to hit a small wall when you move up to the next level. You're not comfortable yet. Opponents aren't familiar. They play different than lower levels. You have an expectation, and it's usually wrong. You think someone is being overaggressive with a KQ and surprise, he really just limped AA. At a lot of sites there's a big gap between 25 and 50NL in terms of skill. other sites no difference. It depends.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

I have played about 20k hands @ $25NL now and am fairly sucessful (11.5BB/100) and so I've tried $50NL too. My VERY first hand I was dealt KK and I'm just about jumping through the roof...end up going all-in pf and losing it all to AA! Welcome to $50NL. Now get out. LOL. I continued to play and made back most of it but so far $50NL did not strike me as being a huge leap from $25NL. The biggest thing for me was getting used to the larger bet sizes...otherwise I am still grinding it out at $25NL because it continues to amaze me what people will call me with. It's to the point where it is entertaining. For example, just had my 6xBB raise called by 67 os and I stacked him...he was LIVID. Uhm, best hand won? That doesn't seem to make sense to many of the donks I run into.

I've wasted money after moving up just because I want to prove that I'm not playing with scared money.

I found 50NL to be very frustrating, but then again, so are all levels. I have found that everytime I moved up in levels that I would play my 'A' game and would have a very successful session. The following session, however, would be the opposite because I'm beaming with too much confidence. I play on PokerStars and have found a huge difference between 25NL and 50NL, but no difference between 50NL and 100NL.

Wait until you hit 1000. Then if you lose four buyins, move back down and build back up to 1000.

Same with 100nl. Wait until you hit 2000. Then if you lose four buyins move back down.

For me, I was running about 8-12BB/100 at 25NL (10k hands) and moved up to 50NL. In the first two sessions, I was down four buyins. Back to 25NL for a couple of weeks and now back to 50NL. I agree with Bank that I found the move more difficult than I anticipated.

I watch the play at the table and watch as someone is stacked by another player hitting some 2 outer on the river and then find the same thing occurring to crack my AA. I have had QQ 12 times and have lost money on 9 of them. Three times I was up against KK. Three more, an A falls on the flop and I am facing a reraise to my c-bet. Oh well ...

So now, I am just grinding it out. I have tightened my game recently and we'll see what happens. Sometimes I think about just going back to 25NL but not yet.
