Default how can i rate how i'm going?

    i've started online this week....

have already had many ups and downs... and badly down at the moment...but i feel that i am still very disciplined and losing to bad beats badly....

i've noticed statistics that the site has to offer... do these ever reflect on my play?

    currently i have..

    played 727 and won 57 (8%)
    showdown 30/63 (48%) 27 uncontested wins..
i see flop 37% of times...i've folded many small and big blinds...

    i think i am under performing...as compared to natural odds....so what's wrong?

i am about 80% of the bank roll i started with... but have been beat bad since once reaching 180% in one session i lost AA to KK, KK to AA, winning 80c from JJ and forced to put down my QQ. When i hit my flush the other guy hit his fullhouse..... but i'm not too cut and will stay disciplined....

so what figures should I be aiming for? i feel that i get forced out of the pot too much and i rarely win uncontested, and only when i bet pot on the flop with top pair.... is this because I don't bluff?

    thanks for any advice

playing too loose (37% seeing flop)
not folding enough (winning 48% at showdown)

You're playing way too many hands for one thing. If you're playing full ring games then you should be seeing about half as many flops as you are now. You are also losing more than half of your showdowns. If you're losing more showdowns than you are winning then logically you aren't going to be making a whole lot of money. Seems like you are going to showdown with marginal hands. Generally speaking, you should be winning more hands without having to go to showdown. Perhaps this is an aggression issue?

These general statistics are a good place to start, but they aren't the best indicator of your play or the easiest thing to analyze since there are so many more variables. 700 hands isn't near enough to get a clear idea either.

Trying to understand and resolve weak points in your game can be difficult, but it's great that you're trying. I think at this point the best thing would be for you to post some hand histories of hands that gave you trouble. Myself and others would be more than willing to look at them and offer our advice. If you don't get the type of response you are looking for then feel free to message me and I'll try my best to help you out.

But most of all, don't get discouraged. When most people begin online play they start off losing. It just seems to be the natural progression for most. The fact that you have played 700+ hands and still have 80% of your initial bankroll is a positive sign. Just keep at it and the results will come.

dont see as many flops, and learn when to fold more.

The reason you are probably losing 50% of your showdowns is because you are seeing the flop with mediocre hands.
Say for example you see the flop with K-8. You flop a pair of kings, and the rest of the board is rags (no flush or straight possibilities). If you end up seeing the river you will probably loose as someone most likely has a better king than you, such as K-J or K-A.

So if you learn to fold mediocre hands preflop you wont loose as many showdowns probably.

at the moment i try to only play cards that are

    group 6 and above

call a reasonable raise if i was group 2+

and try to raise if group 2+

However, people don't seem to play with me when i raise...or when i raised and hit top pair on flop i just win a small pot...

the problem is i can resist playing rags but i don't know how to maximise wins with my good cards.

In my 700+ hands i've experienced the pain of losing AA vs KK, losing KK vs AA, having to fold with QQ many times and smashed with JJ. In many of those cases i think i know where i lost so it's ok...but somehow the stats and bankroll just ain't improving....

another problem seems like whenever i do play people give me the benefit of a doubt and fold... but now i've been told i'm too loose? i just always thought i was tight.... took no risks... followed pot odds... etc etc...

i've even learnt to fold Axo every time.....

maybe i should reset my stats and see if there are any changes...

i do go thru my hand history but it's all confusing now and i don't know which ones to post...i'll try to post when i do have some queries. thanks.

If you can, try to post some hand histories. There are people here that are really good at looking at some examples and pointing things out that you might not see.

I think a big deal, especially when playing the group 5, 6 level hands, is the position you're playing them from. There are others here that understand this way more than I do, but many of these hands (suited connectors, drawing hands) are generally meant to be played from later positions with a bunch of limpers. Maybe playing too many of these types of hands accounts for the higher % seeing the flop, and adding to showdown losses.

I agree with steelwheel, as that is something you might want to look at, or post some hands of. Playing J9s, hitting top pair and getting beat with AJ, KJ, QJ etc.

You might look into a program called poker tracker. It is mentioned many times in the "Tools of Poker" section of the forums. It will help you find the holes in your game.

Are you having fun? Can you afford to loose your entire bankroll? These are the 2 most important questions.

You found this site which is a good start. Follow advice above. Read some poker advice - apply it. However, there is no substitute for experience. Eventually, you will be able to laugh off the bad beats and you will make a little money. If you lose your BR, rebuild or find another hobby.

i'll get the program..and apply it.

also i think it's a great hobby/fun exciting game... even though i was beat 3x yesterday with AA (went all in everytime and lost quite heavily...) i think i'm over it.. either i'm too addicted or good enough to accept a bad beat

and another thing... i was discussing with my friend....there are recommendations to go all in with AA/KK... my friend thinks they always get smashed...not worth it...save the all in when you think you have the best hand.... what's the verdict here? Going all in with AA/KK is meant result in a net profit in the long term because the odds are favourable??? so keep going all in?

also...if i post hands...how many is reasonable or should i only pick the hands that i have trouble on... or all last 100? it seems too many for ppl to go thru.

    many many thanks.

I say bet AA/KK very heavily pre-flop, and even go all-in if you are short stacked or get the read that most people at the table will respect it. But i dont subscribe to the theory that all-in all the time will make you money on the long road.
