My first hand for evaluation

Default My first hand for evaluation

I'm not happy with the value I got from this hand and figured it was worthy of criticism. I think I could have played it much better and pretty much have an idea of what I could have done, but I'm very curious to see what some of the vets think...

UTG has been pretty tight, I know his range has an A in it, A10+, 77+, KJ+ Although he's been tight pre-flop I think he will play pretty loose post-flop.....

BB just sat down, my only read is he has been pretty loose in the few hands he did play.

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (6 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    CO ($9.95)
    Button ($10.15)
    SB ($12.50)
    BB ($11.65)
    UTG ($28.35)
    Hero (MP) ($24.65)

Preflop: Hero is MP with A, 6
UTG calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, 3 folds, BB checks

    Flop: ($0.85) 6, A, Q (3 players)
BB checks, UTG bets $0.75, Hero raises to $1.50, 1 fold, UTG calls $0.75

    Turn: ($3.85) 8 (2 players)
UTG bets $0.75, Hero raises to $3, UTG calls $2.25

    River: ($9.85) K (2 players)
UTG bets $0.75, Hero calls $0.75

    Total pot: $11.35 | Rake: $0.50

I know I should have raised on river... however with the range I was putting UTG on and the K coming I wasn't sure I was the favorite here. His small bets really threw me off. I should of know it was weakness and I know there was alot more value to be had. I probably should have put him on a looser range?

Probably dont limp behind 1 caller with A6 off PF.

On flop it's definitely good to raise, but here is an excellent spot to raise about 2.50-.275 to make sure you're heads up against villian and for more value.

Better raise sizing on turn, perhaps raise more with the FD there. There really isn't much in his donking range that beats you on either street.

It's unlikely that much of his range is now beating you on the river and the FD didn't complete, so yes, again , raise for more value.

But try not to limp this in MP! Raise or fold weak aces if you want to play them.
    Im ready this time.

i agree.. my first thought was I made a mistake by not raising. Honestly I was going to and I normally would have, but I was only at the table for about 10 hands and was still getting a feel for it and for some reason I just didn't.

i'd lean toward folding rather than raising with A6o preflop here (both are better than calling imo). i might open A6s but A6o is typically going to put you in tough spots when you don't flop 3 of a kind or two pair.
as played i probably raise to $2.25 on the flop to get value from weaker one pair aces. turn raise as played i think is fine. and river i probably make it something he cant fold to like $4.5. after he has lead three streets your river raise is actually pretty thin i think. the only worse hands he calls with are AT, AJ, A9, maybe some A7. there aren't many realistic two-pair combos that aren't aces up KQ maybe if hes bad enough). had he bet something like $3-4 on the river i would advocate smooth calling. but his shitty little bet means we can raise him 4-5x and he still gets good pot odds on his call if he has AT or whatever.

simply shouldn't be calling A6o in MP. however in a limp pot i believe you have the best hand especially with no real draws made or seen on the flop

fold preflop 100% always that is a very bad limp.

flop raise to 3$ for sure - wayyyy to small, turn as played raise to 4.5$, as played i think river call is not to bad although you're probably losing value however it is the best played street of the 4.

    Fold preflop, easy.

i like'd the hand pre-flop honestly. The table was very tight and usually ended up in heads up on the flop. Like I said, was still fairly new to the table aswell so playing a hand like this for me is a good way to get into a pot for cheap and see what these guys are doing.
That's why I almost raised just to see how easily opponents were shoved on.

RPM, I think you are dead on, and agree 100% with you. I had the slider moved to raise $5 on the river and for somereason edged toward the call. He had the exact hand I was putting him on, but I second guessed myself.

Good feedback guys, really appreciate it!

Hands like this PF are really dangerous later. What happens when the flop comes A-T-x??? are you calling his bets all the way to the end?? Will you get bluffed off the best hand? Like others said... you really need to flop 2 pair or better and that just doesn't happen often enough.

^^^ then again.. last time I played a crap ace in MP the flop came A-A-A... didn't get too much action.

good that your hand reading skills are in tune. if you havent already, i suggest you search the BC for:
    XTR's "what's a range, daddy?"
and spoon's "put your opponents on a goddamn range"

yeah, i've read them over and over again, lol..... and i have done some of his excercises which have helped me GREATLY understand concepts I hadn't really thought of

I guess my main concern was with AK in his range ontop of the weak A i was putting him on the river card really changed it for me. Still have to hone the skill of narrowing down the range as the cards progress

I wouldn't put AK/AQ in his range since it's an limped pot and if he plays tight they'll almost always be raised pre flop.

As to his betting range I think his sizing means weak/medium hands. Looks like a really weak A or something like QJ trying to block bet.
