your pre-flop sizing was horrendous. Raise a lot bigger.
You turn sizing was also terrible, you gave any draw pot-odds to call. You should have bet enough to put villain allin on turn.

JKDS...from your reaction it seems that was not a big enough bet? If that is correct what would you bet in this scenario? 5xBB, 6xBB ????

Pre-flop raise should be 4xbb minimum, your goal here is to both build a pot and potentially isolate a weaker player... and as previously stated, turn bet needed to be much larger, at least 2/3 pot. You gave him the odds, he called and he hit, he played it pretty well.

well consider the following

-villains like calling and do so with a wide range
-villains like to overplay hands like JJ, AK and bet/raise them too much
-villains are often less likely to call post flop if they completely miss

obv these are super generalizations, but if we think about those, then we should be raising an amount thats large enough so that we maximize from these mistakes.

in a more mathy fashion, im saying villain's calling range is wide, and we're often ahead of his 4betting/callshove range, and that at the micros, these ranges arent affected by our bet sizing until we bet an amount greater than b which is opponent dependent.

Almost no opponents change their ranges if b is the minimum bet, so we can bet larger and play against the same range which we have good expectation agaisnt.

considering the above, a 4 or 5xbb raise is waaaay better than a minraise.

optimal size? meh, sort of opponent dependent, and also depends on how we do against different ranges. like, do we get more value from raising to .30 and getting called by A, B, and C or do we get more value from raising to 1.00 and getting called by only A? That kind of thing is too complicated for me atm though.

First off, this is $5NL no? So we need full stacks, $5 always, second, whey did you bet so small on the turn and lastly why are you checking the river after betting two streets?

The flush doesn't come in until the river. You need to charge on each street. Preflop has been covered. I would be betting at least 2/3's pot on flop and turn. If he'll come along for the ride on the A-high FD, god bless him.
