Iowa - why dont you add a poll with age ranges - I'd be interested to see the results... I'm not to worried about individual ages of individual posters - but the demographics would be interesting... I would think majority are under 25... (not me though )

Um...you need more options on your poll...keep going till I say stop.

    i was gonna say

35 used to seem like dinosaur aged to me also when i was 18....

32, 25NL - about $4k (clocked a big MTT win late last year, course wife wanted some of it and I bought a motorbike)

    Good one Iowa...
    I would suggest
    Under 18
    18 to 21
    22 to 25
    26 to 35
    36 to 45
    45+
  10. #10
    Standard demographic breakdown is:
    18-24
    25-34
    35-49 <-moi
    50-64
    65+

Don't think we really need to know who is under 18 and playing poker online...

idk what's going on, the poll option isnt showing up when i say edit or i would change it, and mod feel free to change to warpe's demographic.

responses should include total hands played and at what limits and how much made at each limit.

as a relatively new player im up in bets, but down in money mainly from running good at low limits and running shitty when i jump.

yeah just use my guidelines, we don't have to get each other's life stories. A lot of people don't know how many hands they've played and don't want to go through all the details.

    HI:

I'm 57 started playing limit poker on line in Feburary, switched to No Limit in June, about time I found FTR and that helped me to finally beat the micro stakes of .01-.02 no limit and then I read Aokronglys 19 hand starting system and started using that which I have expanded on slightly. and now am up $700 playing in $10 NL

yea im in college and its awesome...i spend alot on partying and buy alot of shit i dont need. like the other day i had a test at night, but i didnt feel like studying so i went and bought an xbox 360. i also usually pick up the tabs for food and beer because $20 here and there means alot more to my friends than me.

I've also noticed that poker money makes shit that you had to beg your parents to get you so inexpensive, since you don't have to pay for anything but random shit. Are you paying for your college with some of the money or are your parents paying for it? Have you made any investments with the shit? What are your plans for the future as a career?

im paying my rent, i got a nice scholarship that pays for most of school. i think my parents still pay for the rest of school because they want me to feel bad if i dropped out on their dime. i paid cash for a car and have some CDs. im also looking to get into mutual funds soon. as for a career, i dont know. poker has spoiled me and i dont want to work a 9-5 ever.

Yeah parents paying for your school makes sense because they probably think you could drop out any second. I think at the rate I'm going it's just a matter of time before I'm making 15-20k a year. I'd really like to be smart with that money, I may use it to pay off my student loans, or maybe just invest it and eventually buy a car or something.
Poker is unbelievable money for us still in college! I mean 5k is a shitload, I can't even imagine 100k...

what about IRAs? 2k/year at your age will mean quite a bit when you retire.

Yeah, making the max investment allowed into a Roth IRA every year is by far the smartest thing that anybody who is still fairly young can do(besides probably investing as much as your company will match into a 401K if you have a regular job and your company does that). The best thing my parents ever did for me was teaching me the value of a Roth IRA when I was only 19. Having your interest compile year after year after year completely tax free is huge.

its not like i have 100k spending money...most of it is my BR, most of the rest was spent or locked away somewhere.

as far as IRAs, ive been doing alot of research about different ways of investing the past week or so, but still not sure exactly how im going to allocate most of it.

If you could, pm me about how you invest and what your experience is with it.
How about taxes? Do you report the money you cash out (sorry for all the questions)? Do you report all the money you make even if it stays in the poker account?
    Check out the new blog!!!

as far as taxes go, for all you students i talked to my uncle who is a lawyer and he said the first 8k is pretty much 0-3% tax. 100K would be quite a high tax bracket. he said getting caught would be like finding a needle in a haystack. however if you never report it/dont file taxes they can come back at any time in your life and still nail you for it.

if you do file, they have 3 years to audit you, and after that, you are clean.

disclaimer-im not a lawyer, and i was just talking informally to my relative, talk to your own cpa/lawyer for your situation.

A CD is, I think, like what we call in Canada a GIC...guaranteed investment certificate...with a low but albeit guaranteed interest rate. For very low-risk investors. Definitely not for ballers.

not really being a bankroll baby... you have 28 buyins for the level you play. So according to the 20 buyin rule you are where you should be, but I think the 20 buyin rule is silly. Overroll yourself it will make you feel much better.

I'm 20, learned holdem last May. Have played ~400-450 tournaments since then, made around $6k.

Right now I play $55 SnGs and mid-stakes MTTs. I need to play more poker and learn cash games.
