I think the reason why everyone says they are winners is because you wont get many losing players who se this thread and say, omg, i need to post my losses so everybody can laugh at me in other threads.

Either that or we all lie.
Me? I always tell the truth.

    Even when I lie.

    after reading this thread, either...

    1) Losers don't post in this thread, only winners do
    2) just about everyone that reads FTR wins money at poker

I'm going with #1 on this one

    On the grind slavin' daily.
I'm 17, turning 18 in 23 days. Been playing poker at friends houses for atleast 5 months. Usually play a home game every other week or so. Down $32.50, since I started keeping track, which has been over the past 15 games. This comes out to be only -.566 buy-ins per game though. Already read HOH1 and 2, Caro's Poker Tells and am reading ToP right now. Second I hit 18, if I can still play poker online, I'll be depositing money on Poker Stars, buying Poker Tracker and hitting the .01/.02 tables. Hopefully I can find some leaks using PT, but I think I just recently got a very big leak plugged thanks to the SNG stickies I just read.

That's surprising to me as well.

I think the perception of the numbers of people < 24 comes from the fact that the most active posters are students with more time on their hands.

    My info:

    28. Currently at 100NL; former SnGer. Running hot of late. Net of a bit more than $4k after newbie initiation fee of $150.

I'd be curious to see what some of the high-stakes players have lost overall as well. I know I've lost somewhere around 250k on my losing hands playing poker over the last year and a half (if not more), but I've made around 271k on my winning hands.

It's like when John Daly said that he's lost 60 million gambling. He's probably correct in saying that, but he's probably won around 40 million or so to somewhat even it out.

Is there a quick way to figure how much $ has been lost aside from totalling numbers from PT?

    Using PT (cash games only)
    I have lost:
    ~$5900 on hands that I folded pre-river
~$ 1400 on hands that I folded on the river
~$ 6200 on hands that lost on s/d.

Wow. That's $13.5k that's simply been churned around.

Ask your girlfriend who disapproves of you playing this game. She'll know.

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

How did I miss this in '06?

'06 answer: 23, ~10k live, losing online, going pro for the first time.

    '09 answer:
    26 / 1-2 fishy cash games live, 100-200nl online / 70-80k live, 19k online.
    Check out my self-deprecation here!
