I'm playing emotionless poker!

Anyone that's read any of my posts here probably considers me a bad-attitude whining douche bag. Hopefully, those days are behind me!

My goal for the summer was to just push playing poker to the bag of my mind, don't even consider it. Instead, I spent the summer reading a few books and "changing" myself. To stop playing like an aggressive maniac with no self control or discipline. To stop getting riled up when my PF raises with AA get folded around. To start playing solid poker.

Well, last night PP credited my account with $40 for not "playing in awhile." I had no money in any of my poker accounts, which is another reason I stopped playing. I cancelled my bank account out and just worked the summer, saving up money for my Bonus Whoring journey I'm gonna go on in September, but with $40 to lpay around with I decided to give it a go.

I've only got a few hours in at the tables so far, but I'm happy. I don't care when my preflop raises with JJ-AA get folded around. "I'll get 'em next time" is what I tell myself. I don't get mad at only winning a small pot when I thought I should have won more. "A win is a win." I'm playing with discipline. I'm thinking more about the decisions I'm making. I'm tightening up my preflop selection. And most of all, I feel like I'm making good decisions overall! I had a few tough decisions in the past 24 hours, and I've come out on top on all but 1 of them.

Another big difference I think is, I'm only playing full tables now. I used to play exclusively shorthanded. I hated playing 10 person ring games live at school and loved playing shorthanded, but I think online I might like full tables better. I'm gonna take this all in stride and realize I'm going to hit some bumps. But I think I really took a step forward this time. I've doubled the $40 to $80. I really don't care about "winning money" right now. I just want to play consistent and build the BR up to a respectable amount so when variance hits, I can take the hit. Catching myself when I'm on tilt is what I really have to watch out for. Hasn't happened yet, but I just gotta stay alert.

I agree with him playing SNGs, but not for the same reason really.

Since you got the "come back" bonus, you must have had the account for awhile, so you cant play beginners tables. This means that the lowest stakes you can play at are the $25nl tables which you are [obviously] severely underrolled for. If you plan on using this money to build it up for a real BR then start with good management skills so you dont do anything crazy when you do get the real BR. Id play the $6 tournies, even for those you are underrolled but if you are a winning $25nl player you have a better chance at not going broke with those.

My quick thoughts on 750 hands of play. I havn't even looked at the "Monster" tables, just the NL cash games.

Was it just a small sample size, or is 25NL full ring a lot fishier and full of more predictable plays than short-handed? I felt like I could see their cards while they were betting. Passive calling stations that showed strength in the most obvious situations. But later, there plays just got weirder and worse. I was getting 3bet all-ins by short-stacks who limped or min-raised. And every time I had a PP I made the call. And I won about 75% of those hands.

I don't know why I loved short-handed so much. That's all I played. But fullring I'm just 2-tabling and focusing on watching other players and trying to spot tells. And at 25NL, there's plenty of opportunities to clean up deadmoney pots without going overboard.

Small update: I built the BR up to $150 over the past 2-3 days. Yesterday I hit a small (well, somewhat large bump swing) I got rivered by flushes twice for full stacks with it in on the flop once and turn once and made a most likely bad call AI on the flop with AK on a K-4-9 rainbow flop to a K4 2 pair (raised preflop). Small setbacks, but I took them in stride, stopped playing for the day, and just told myself I'll come back tomorrow and make solid decisions and grind out some wins. I thought I made some good plays today, so I'm interested in the feedback on how you think I did. I definitely see myself improving as a player and every day I see new things I do "instinctively" just by seeing the repetitions over and over again. I was only playing 1 table at this time today, so that's why you will probably see some less-than-mediocre hands played.

So here's some of my 25NL hands. I have to include this first hand because it's so bad on both accounts (me and opponent). It was a "mix it up" play and just snowballed. It was my first hand at the table and I wanted to get off on the right foot. I put him n the flush draw based on his incredibly weak flop bet and couldn't give it up on the turn. I was more than happy to check the river.
