playing an online ringgame of 100nl. been playing for about 20mins and have observed the table to be pretty tight. bets of 10 or more usually pushes almost everyone out. so i finally get a good starting hand Ak nad bet 10. pushes everyone out except one guy to my left and he calls both blinds fold. the flop comes A J 10. looking pretty good for me but knowing he was a relatively tight player it might be for him as well. I bet 15 and he calls. turn card is a king. two pair for me but also could mean trips or straight for him. i bet 20 and he calls. river comes a 5. i bet another 20 so i am in for 65. but he raiuses me another 25 i call and the he tuns over QJ for the straight. So how would u have played it. Should I have pushed harder after the flop but he was a pretty tight player so he could have hit something big and should i have checked on the turn to see his play. And not called at all on the raise. Was hard for me to lay down top two pair.

How it looked to me, you said he was a pretty tight player and 10$ will push everyone out. Now after the river you see that he was a dog to you untill the turn. I would have right away preflop put him on Ace high kicker it almost seemed to me that you didnt want to accept that your hand could be beaten. Im not calling you a bad player since he did get very lucky on the turn and it was a great flop for both of you, but two pair as we all know is beaten by a straight. If there is a 4 card straight on the board ill bet that someone has the 5th card for sure. When that king came on the turn it was fine to bet there since it did make your two pair but you could have saved yourself money on the river by checking and seeing what he bet. From what i have seen he wants you to stay in the hand and make some extra money, so he will either bet huge and make it look like a steal or he will bet small to get every last drop out of you he could. You have to think about what your opponent is doing, if hes not scared of the 4 card straight there could be a reason for that. I hope this helped

He seems like a kind of weak player to me. He called a large bet on the flop with nothing but second pair, second kicker and an inside straight draw. And he has to figure based on your large raise that you've got either aces (trips on the flop) or cowboys (an overpair to his jacks). He got lucky this time, but probably loses a lot of money making calls like that.

I think you have to shut down once that K comes. Even though it made you two-pair, it's THE worst card that could have fallen for you (with the possible exception of the J or T pairing). With the board one face card off a straight, it is simply a bad play to give action unless you have a read on your opponent (namely that he will frequently bluff scare card situations like these). I almost definitely wouldn't bet, because the only way you're going to win any more after that K comes is if he has you beat or has an inferior two-pair and hopes you're bluffing the straight. If I was in this situation, I would check on the turn and probably fold if he makes a sizeable (>1/2 pot size) bet. If he checks behind you, I'd check again on the river and again fold if he makes a good-sized bet.

YOu mentioned that the player is a tight player who calls your $10 preflop - I would have put him on a high pair (TT and higher), therefore I would be very careful in playing a fold with 3 high cards.

Not really. It was a bad card to fall, because it puts 4 to a straight on the board and makes you hand harder to get away from. But it's not as bad as you make it sound.

Weak. TPTK is a good hand in a ring game. Bet it out until you are sure you are beat. Even then, don't be so hasty to toss it. Consider odds.

In this situation tbone had to pay $25 into a ~$170 pot. It is one of those cry and call situations. The range of hands this guy had and represents is not consistent.

In a raised pot with TJKA on the board, I just don't see how you can be confident in your hand without a Q. If someone who's any kind of player at all raises, the only thing you can put them on is the straight or a bluff. They may call or make a value bet with two-pair or a set, but other than those exceptions, I don't see how anyone's going to give any action w/out the straight...
