If you pulled a King-high flush on the river and then bet fairly big, but your only other competitor in the hand went all-in over the top of you, how confident would you be that he/she had the Ace-high flush?

More importantly, would you call that bet? Let's say that your experience with this opponent is that he/she usually only bets big when holding a good hand, and has not gone all-in during this particular game.

It depends on the details. How much more is it to call? Tournament or ring game? How good do you mean by "only bets big with a good hand" (a Q high flush is still a good hand - but its not the nuts)? Is there a board pair? How have they played the hand before the river?

If its not much more to call, its an easy call in any situation. If its a ton more than the pot and the player never reraises huge on the river unless they have the nuts or a boat, its a rather easy laydown.

A bit too oversimplified of a question to answer.

In a very very standard case, I'd probably say call if I don't have a good read on the player. There's a lot of nuts out there in the online poker world (*cough* Ripp with 76 high against Maxx *cough*) that'd do this on a bluff, or players that'd do it on a T high flush thinking it has to be good.

Definitely need more info about how he has been betting, both on that hand and previous ones. Does he bet flush draws, or just call on odds? Has be been the aggressor? Does he just have the right A and is betting you'll fold without the nut flush?

If there are 3 on the board and the board isn't paired I call everytime against any player. If he's got a bigger flush, you're just going to have to pay him off.

However if there are 4 on the board or the board is paired you got a legit decision to make.

what i would want to know:

-were there two of the suit on the flop, or did the second suited card fall on the turn?

-has he been betting like he's on a draw, or like he has TPTK?

-are you betting your flush draw, and if so, how's the other player been responding?

i tend to agree with fnord - i'd probably bet a K high flush every time as long as the board doesn't pair and there's 3 of the suit.

So if there's a $50 pot before the reraise, including your big river bet (lets say a pot size bet of $25), and Ttanaka raises you all in for $200, you'd call? I think there are players that you know would not reraise you all in with a Q high flush. They'd certainly just call on the river, knowing that you probably have a flush, and could easily have K or A high. You could have a lower one, but a call here is a much better play than all in, since if they do have the ace, they're definitely calling your all in, and if they have a flush lower than a Q, they shouldn't call.

At worst its going to be a tough decision, if a rock does this. I don't think its an automatic call.

hey give rippy some credit he had 7 8 not 7 6, :P the board was scary thoug, flush out there an ace out there and a pair of 5's, and he goes all in, it was a tough decision but then i thought, rippy likes to hang his balls out there early or go bust, well I dont think he has it, so lets see if he has it or if he's gonna go bust. And fortunatly it was bust time for rippy

Haha, but yeah, exactly. The scary part is what I'm talking about. There are very aggressive players that'll go all in just because the river makes a scary board (not because they have a hand), hoping to make you fold out of fear.

All the more reason to call if you have the 2nd best possible hand and don't have a read on a guy that goes all in on the river.
