Default When you are short stacked in on online tournament....

Is there any point in continuing to build your chips as it seems almost every time the group with larger stacks always win, it doesn't matter what cards you have if you are short stacked they will never hit the flop. Also when there's like three or four short stack going all in with the guy who has tons of chips he would always win and eliminate everyone else.

I play on full tilt and partypoker and I seen this happen a lot on both sites.

Nah there is no point, once you get below 10 big blinds you should probably just leave and open up a new tournament.

You should probably start an investigation, for science. Start a database and get a sample size of 5000 all-ins and come back with the results. I'll be waiting with bated breath.

It's almost as if having more chips is advantageous.

I'm not sure I believe such a bold statement.

So you're saying when you have a big stack, you always win?

It's funny how we just had a thread about how these sites always let the short stack win with shittier cards, now we are told our chips are what makes us win.

Can you tell me why there would be a benefit to the site to do this?

And oh ya, if you want to post anymore "poker is rigged" bullshit in this forum and post the same question in more than one forum again I will tear your nuts off and place them with the others.

heres a good example that just happened to me now on full tilt (keep in mind i knew the guy bluffs a lot and was probably on tilt)

Pre Flop: (t90) Hero is CO with K of clubs A of hearts
UTG calls t60, 4 folds, Hero raises to t210, 3 folds, UTG calls t150

Flop: (t510) 5 of spades J of clubs 9 of spades (2 players)
UTG bets t960, Hero calls t960

    Turn: (t2430) 2 of hearts (2 players)
UTG bets t2610, Hero calls t1375 all in

    River: (t5180) 7 of spades (2 players - 1 is all in)

    Final Pot: t5180
Hero shows K of clubs A of hearts (Ace King high)
UTG shows 7 of diamonds 2 of diamonds (two pair, Sevens and Twos)
    UTG wins t5180

That hand tells me that hero doesn't know how to play poker. I also think I know why you are the short stack a lot

that other guy was raising almost every flop, I wouldnt normally call those bets but like i said i knew he had nothing and was trying to bluff me out of the pot.

You called off almost half your stack on the flop with A high and the rest of it on the turn again with A high. You don't stop a bluff with a call. If your gonna put the whole stack in then shove the flop when your ahead, not on the turn when your behind almost everything

If the worst hand always wins, then why didn't you win? I mean, you had no pair and he had a pair when the chips went in, so you should have been a huge favorite, right?

It's almost like there is an element of randomness and incomplete information in the games you're playing. Have you contacted customer support and let them know about this issue?

P.S. I just plugged your hands into equilab and it turns out you weren't the favorite after all. What can you count on in this life?

your right and i probably should have shoved all in on the flop knowing he had air but even if he called here I would've still lost by a bad beat from a large stack which proves my original point.

Devildog, the reason you're getting snarky responses from the posters here is because we have little sympathy for bad beat stories. If you get your money in while you are ahead, but lose anyway, that's a bad beat. Those suck, but they happen in poker. Even pocket aces get cracked about 15% of the time. You have to be willing to accept a certain amount of variance.

However, it sounds like not all of your losses are bad beats but some bad plays as well. The advice you get here is going to be aimed at getting you to make better poker decisions so that you'll average out as a winner, even if the "profitable" decision can lose money on a particular hand from a bad beat.

Oh yeah this reminds me of some of the fun there is to be had. Damn I've missed you guys!!!

I could flood this thread with hand histories showing me both losing as the chip leader and winning as the short stack. Somehow I feel like it would make no difference.

Did you have the smaller stack before the hand started?

You know what I think I'll just quit playing online poker, its happened to me another 10-15 times since i started this thread and again always against the larger stacks, this kind of thing rarely happens in live tournaments. Unless i find an online poker site that truly does randomize the cards, I'll just stick to playing live games.

If you don't feel comfortable playing online poker, then don't. If you can't see all the evidence which shows its not rigged, you'll never open your eyes to realise the two most important things: you aren't very good at poker, and variance is crazy.
