Beginner playing $0.01/0.02 NL on FTP

My last proper attempt at playing online was a few days long, despite it being my most successful few thousand hands, it was still below break even. I hope to list out my issues, and just kind of ask for advice. No doubt I'll be reading many threads on the forum to improve my game.

• Type of game: If all else fails, perhaps full ring games aren't for me, and I should focus on S&Gs or something. I don't wish to give up on ring games though.
• Choice of site: Full Tilt Poker. After reading various articles and comparisons. I believe this to be a fine choice of site.
• Variance, I know I'm talking about a small amount of hands, and my EV generally seems to be negative (ever since I started tracking my hands), despite that, I'm not playing well. To some extent, my losing (by chance) has probably disrupted the quality of my game.
• Analysing my game shows that I'm apparantly playing too tightly. My VPIP% is around 9.5%, I thought that playing ABC poker meant I should be playing a percentage like this, but I don't want to be going overboard. My PFR is 8.3%
• The BB is the only time I'm profitable, I wouldn't read too much into that. My game needs work in every position.

Despite me being quite good with odds etc, I still feel I'm doing something obvious wrong. That's how it feels. Any advice is welcome. Thanks for reading.

Start everything off by reading, re-reading, and re-re-reading, studying, and applying concepts found in the Beginners Digest... Then post hands where you were unsure of what to do.

Start by reading the Beginner's Digest, which is stickied at the top of the forum. Post any hands that gave you trouble and ask for advice.

Focus on putting your opponents on ranges for every street of play, even the hands that you are not playing. The better you get at that, the better your results will be.

Full ring is the best place to start if you want to play cash games. Short-handed tables have much higher variance and require stronger post-flop skills.

Sounds you have pretty good discipline, that said you can definitely loosen up a couple %tiles, just study a lot, post hands, ask questions about theory, always always try and develop reads and PUT PEOPLE ON A RANGE. Even if you are folding, I can't emphasize how important this is. Once you start to do this put in lots of volume. One of the great things about 2NL is that it's really hard to run bad enough to a point where you're not making money as long as you have a pretty decent work ethic and actually put in the volume.

Oh and come to IRC, real time advice is a lot easier to come by a lot of the time. Definitely still post lots of hands and ask about theory though, probably best to put a bunch of questions about shit you read in one thread cause some people like to flood the forums for every new thing they read.

I can't say much that hasn't been said (and will be said again) except to emphasize posting hands. Try to give as much info/reads as you can when you do. The more hands you post the better you'll get at it and the more you'll benefit from it.
