    Well, 7 outs on the flop, we have a 1-(40/47)*(39/46) chance of hitting, or a 301/1081 chance (27.8%, rule of 4 = 28%).

    Thats like saying 301 cards help, and 780 dont, so 301:780, which reduces to 1: 2.59.

    For the 4 out draw though, using the same method we get 1:5.07--> 1:5 (16.6:84.3, about 16%)
    The 5 out 1:3.91 --> 1:4 (20:80, 20%)
    The 6 out 1:3.14 -->1:3 (or 25:75, ie about 25%)

    So the approximation is only really valid for the 7 outter...but that depends on how picky you want to be about half a digit

    If you're just shooting for close, then who the fuck cares about odds?

    Villain must bet less than 1/2 pot to continue profitably (assuming we're seeing free rivers...).

    Thats easier to remember.

    careful about thinking of pot odds in NLHE. Implied odds and two streets of poker will matter a ton. There are pot odd situations but there is a lot more to it than just knowing the odds on one street.

    The only number that's marginal is 8 outs. The rest are accurate.

    8 outs 31.4% 33% (2:1 pot odds) marginal
    7 outs 27.8% 25% (3:1 pot odds)
    6 outs 24.1% 20% (4:1 pot odds)
    5 outs 20.3% 16% (5:1 pot odds)
    4 outs 16.4% 14% (6:1 pot odds)
    If you want to use you're method no one is going to stop you. Just don't stand there telling the BC that these numbers are accurate when its blatantly obvious they aren't.

    I care a lot less about pot odds than I do about the strength of the villain's range.

    Since the mods won't delete this post I'll try to redeem myself with this:

    Like I said before, this is just something I was thinking about and nothing more.

    I believe 13 is a better number.

    9 outs needs > 4.1 pot odds so use 4
    8 outs needs > 4.8 pot odds so use 5
    7 outs needs > 5.6 pot odds so use 6
    6 outs needs > 6.7 pot odds so use 7

    If you have 10 outs or more and you can't hit then take a break.

    Disclaimer: Do not use any method suggested here unless it has been verified by yourself or another member of this forum who is not as big of a dumbass as the original poster...

    You can edit your own posts and it's much easier than moving/deleting them. Surprisingly, mods have other stuff to do outside of this amazingly well paying job.
