Default biggest WTF hand i seen on one of my tables so far (5NL)

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.05 BB (6 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    BB ($9.61)
    UTG ($8.86)
    MP ($6.22)
    CO ($6.65)
    Hero (Button) ($14.49)
    SB ($14.66)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 8, 2
UTG calls $0.05, 4 folds, BB bets $0.20, UTG calls $0.15

    Flop: ($0.42) 2, Q, 6 (2 players)
BB bets $0.25, UTG calls $0.25

    Turn: ($0.92) A (2 players)
BB bets $0.35, UTG raises to $0.70, BB raises to $1.55, UTG raises to $2.40, BB calls $0.85

    River: ($5.72) 2 (2 players)
BB bets $3.05, UTG raises to $6.01 (All-In), BB calls $2.96

    Total pot: $17.74 | Rake: $0.85

    Results:
BB had A, Q (two pair, Aces and Queens).
UTG had 9, K (one pair, twos).
    Outcome: BB won $16.89

made worse of course by my crappy 82 offsuit would have won a huge pot if I'd been stupid enough to play it and call all the raises. Just can't work out what UTG thought he was doing, but then again i had been plundering him all session.

I hate when this happens, but it doesn't get to me because if you played 8-2 everytime you would lose more money than you would gain when this happens. Unfortunate, but nice to see you doing work against that fish

The whole "if I had played this crappy hand I would have won a huge pot" went away got me after I got used to the idea that I'm going make the right play based on the info I have at the time.

I would love to hear what UTG's plan was as he/she played this hand. Why bluff with those small raises, at least give your opponent a good place to fold?

just to clear up, theres no regrets about not playing that hand as playing every street up to the river would have been a massive mistake and cost loads of money and was an insta fold decision preflop. My WTF was with regards to how badly he played it,raising and reraising with air. I should add I suppose that in about 60 hands he was 87/4 ish so all the raising was completely out of character for how he had played the session.

i hate players like the utg player for so many reasons. For one they always bloat the pot. I mean they aren't that dangerous when you face them hu. The problem is they are a real nuisance in 3 way pots. I mean how many times has the following happened to you . You lead out on the flop and another player reraises. At this point he has over 1/2 his stack in the middle. Then some dude shoves all in. You think to yourself he's giving the raiser 3-1 to call and they raise has shown strength. He has to know he has almost no fold equity. Surely he understands this is a terrible spot to bluff. You fold your tpwk. I mean we aren't suppose to stack off with such hands. Then the player player in the middle calls all in. He shows middle pair. Then bam the lagtard turns over 9 high with no draw.

A couple of points on this.

First, what I don't like about maniacs is how they screw up my reads. OK, the maniac might have anything-- that's bad enough. But what about the decent player who is calling him? What does that player have? I guess I could raise to try and find out-- but the maniac's going to re-raise me!

But that said, in the end, maniacs simply create a profitable expected value situation with a heck of a lot of variance. You have to get on in there when you have a good hand and then ride the roller coaster, understanding that the maniac could show you down with nothing but could also show you down with the nuts.
