When to NOT 3-bet AK? Full Ring
When effective stacks 50-80 bb's, and a loose player with a tight raising range (3% total) open's it up in early position, should we be flat calling AK here or 3-betting to maintain that 'ideal aggressive image' and keep that 3 bet % to a so called ideal number.
IMO flat calling and seeing a flop would be ideal. He's only opening premiums, and he won't be fighting back with anything that we have beat (except maybe AK). If we 3-bet and he flat calls, we get into an akward spot on the flop, even if we hit our king. If he checks it over and he have paired our ace, things aren't bad, we'll either take down the pot or chop it up if he comes back at us. Sometimes he will have 3 aces, but that's unlikely. If we pair our king, we're in a bit of a pickle. If he plays back we can't be sure if he has a set, an overpair (AA), or AK as well.
If he 4-bet shoves preflop how can we call? In fact against 3% of hands AK is a 60-40 dog. And his 4-betting won't inlude the bottom of his 3% range. It's more likely QQ, KK, AA, maybe AKs. That's it.
I'm interested in seeing how others would play AK in spots like this. Also, in a slightly altered scenerio where stacks are 100-130bb's.
