Default When to NOT 3-bet AK? Full Ring

When effective stacks 50-80 bb's, and a loose player with a tight raising range (3% total) open's it up in early position, should we be flat calling AK here or 3-betting to maintain that 'ideal aggressive image' and keep that 3 bet % to a so called ideal number.

IMO flat calling and seeing a flop would be ideal. He's only opening premiums, and he won't be fighting back with anything that we have beat (except maybe AK). If we 3-bet and he flat calls, we get into an akward spot on the flop, even if we hit our king. If he checks it over and he have paired our ace, things aren't bad, we'll either take down the pot or chop it up if he comes back at us. Sometimes he will have 3 aces, but that's unlikely. If we pair our king, we're in a bit of a pickle. If he plays back we can't be sure if he has a set, an overpair (AA), or AK as well.

If he 4-bet shoves preflop how can we call? In fact against 3% of hands AK is a 60-40 dog. And his 4-betting won't inlude the bottom of his 3% range. It's more likely QQ, KK, AA, maybe AKs. That's it.

I'm interested in seeing how others would play AK in spots like this. Also, in a slightly altered scenerio where stacks are 100-130bb's.

50-80BB is a huge window. In general, I like to take a flop with AK in position against nits. However, I'm comfortable getting it in for 50BB with AK preflop against nearly anyone. 70-90BB is around where I would rather take a flop. With >100BB, I lean towards 3betting, just because it's easier to get away from it preflop, and because a nit won't be continuing without the top of his range. It really depends on a lot of factors, not least of which are the players behind you and your recent 3betting activity.

    Agree.

High pocket pairs are big favourites on flop against AK. No need to build a big pot against a bigger hand. If we hit a pair we get little action from KK, QQ, JJ- but deadly action from better hands.

I vote for a "loose" call.

I used to be the nittiest of them all and folded AQs routinely UTG. If I were to play against my previous self I would fold AK against a UTG raise. (Or maybe I would call, check-call flop, check-raise all in on turn??)

Sorry for the pretty general question (yeah the ranges are pretty huge I probably should have stated them in ranges with 10bb gaps). Was looking to get general answers though as to what lines to take in these general situations. Thanks for your input guys.
