Heads up Players... Theory Discussion
Hey guys, I've been thinking a little more on HU strategy and obviously first and foremost I know everyone has their own style, tight, loose, w/e.. But I know in general most of us go into the game without a plan (as Phil Ivey once said), and try to find the leaks in our opponents game and exploit them via playing tight, loose, ultra aggressive or w/e the appropriate style may be.
Now, I went through a small phase of being ultra-aggressive as opposed to just standard agressive play I normally did. ( First I must say that I've noticed this at the $200, and $300 HU SNG's on Sportsbook Poker, and am finally rolled for 50nl cash on Stars... so correct me if I'm wrong ISF and other high stakes regs, if this is only had 50nl and not really where you guys play) What I learned was how powerful betting hard into weakness is, even with a not so good image...
So I got to thinking about how the hands that backfired, when they had their sets, straights, two pair hands, and I noticed how similar their lines were in all of their monsters. And I feel now If I try to pick up on my opponents unique monster line...( maybe it's the standard call then raise on the turn... or check check raise, or w/e it may be) Then each time I feel my opponent deviates from this line, I take full advantage of it and usually steal medium sized pots against him.
Recently, I have been playing more standard and not so ultra agressive and when my image is not too bluffy, this balls to the wall approach of right when I see weakness in his line, I try to get my money in on the remaining streets to induce a fold somewhere throghout the hand.
Idk if you all do this, or you call this something, but I just wanted to post this and hear any reactions on the theory part of this, and I'd love to hear strategy's you all use for maybe certain types of opponents, or just like epiphany monents, where you figured out something vital about heads up poker.. So please lets try to share interesting things, theorms ( i know ISF has some great ones), that we can all think about and maybe incorporate into our games. Thanks guys.
