    Default suited

is it just plain stupid to limp in with something like J 7 suited, or K8 suited, or even A3 suited?

You only want to limp these behind when a bunch of people have already limped into the pot behind you (I'd say at least 3). And you can't forget what you're playing these hands for either...flopping top pair in which 6 people saw the flop is often not in good shape.

Then again though, there are also variables such as your position, your opponents, board texture, etc...

Chance of flopping draw are 1:8. Hitting top pair means crap and flopping better is improbable. This means you need excellent post flop play if you intend to play them. Of course, the number of players and pot odds effects this all as well.

The problem is you will be flopping top pair, second pair much more often than a quality flush draw, and with everything except Ax you don't even have a quality flush draw. If you hit top pair, you'll have to play it, and if you're not really solid post-flop you can loose a lot of money with these types of hands.
And even if you get your quality flush draw you're probably not good. I think it's a very bad idea.

You never want to play these cards. Occasionally you can have a really good read on an opponent such that you can play against them with ANY cards, but aside from those situations, always fold these.

Suited Aces are an exception if you are in late position and several people are in the pot already.

If you want to play suited cards you want them to be suited connectors or high 1 gappers,

I only play those if I know that a couple of very loose players have limped behind me and even then there is no way I will play something that can't flop a straight or a flush eg. K9s or J8s. Your position is good and your odds of hitting a monster sometimes make it worth seeing a flop for the simple fact that if you do hit you're probably going to stack someone.

keep your "speculative hands" to limped pots, multiple players (4+), from late position, and passive post flop play.

speculative hands = more than one gap, suited, and high card is at least a T. (this one is my opinion only)

AXs, though, can be limped in lots of situations. experience will tell you when. in fact, experience will help with all of these holdings. you may want to read this, too. take this link to Renton's guide, and READ IT TWICE before you deposit next. oh, and try it on play money...it works.

honestly, just read the whole link. most of us have. good stuff.
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!

reason being for this is that you want at least 2 ways to win the hand. Suited connectors give you a chance for straight or flush obv, high suited connectors make flopping a pair more likely to win etc.

Although, at low levels you dont need to play hands like 87s or K9s or A3s to make money at a rate of 3bb/100. I would seriously stick to robb's "noobies first 5k hands" guide, find leaks in your game from that, and then loosen up to fit your style more.

How do you find leak? Poker tracker. You can look at things like how many hands you play out of what position, what your average win rate per position is, what hands you lose the most money with (this is huge) and your Aggression factor which should be above 2 just because aggression is huge in holdem and can take down alot of pots.

For instance, i learned from poker tracker that i've lost the most money raising 22 utg FR. I looked at the hands i lost the most with, and some of them i would play exactly the same and there wasnt anything i could do. Others it would seem that i should have raised the flop more, or folded preflop to the obnoxious raise etc. By doing this, you could evaluate on your own what value suited hands, suited connectors have if you have enough data.
