I'
m going to try and attract some
rebuy experts to this thread because I am normally a FR player myself.
FWIW, I think that you should give yourself a realistic chance to win the tourney. Depending on how many entrants, and the
blind structure, and the skill of the other players. Say, I think I am on of the
top players, and I know I can outlast the field. I give myself 5% to win, and 20% to make the FT. If the
rebuy is .5% of the max I can win (
rebuy is $1, and 1st place gets $200, 9th gets $40), then I should be
able to use an EV calc to figure this.
(.05*$200)+(.15*$40)+(.8*-x)=EV
[edit] --Your actual EV will be slightly better than this, because of the 15% that you make the
final table but
don't win, you will make more than the $40 some of the time--
Where x= the total amount of the buyin + rebuys. If you end up with a +EV you should be fine.
I
don't usually trust my math as much as my
reads though, so I
don't get much practice at it. I would like to get someone who has done this calc for
rebuy tourneys to
check that.
