Default The importance of a utilising HUD and tracker

    Hey guys,

Well I've been FTR for a year or two, posted a few hands, given some advice - etc etc - but I've never really contributed something strategy based or written an indepth 'essay' about anythign. I think it's about time I gave back to this community. This thread is mainly going to be relavent to cash games.

Breifly I sum up where I'm at. I've been playing poker for around 5/6 years. Started playign when I was maybe 17 or so, I can't remember how or why, but I started online playing cash games with no clue. This continued for a good few years, until I started reading FTR and books. Basically, I sucked for a long time and lost money. In the last year or so I've become a better player, but not really won much online at all - consisering I think I'm a pretty competent player (though possibly not!). Though live SnG's and MTTs I have done reasonably well.

Anyway, thanks to a thread on FTR I sudenly realised what I was missing. God damn stats! I have PT and PAhud and have had them for aroound a year or so, but I obviously wasn't utilizing them enough. I can't stress how important these tools are, especially for tightening leaks and optimizing your play. (I had to reformat my computer about a week or two ago so sorry I haven't got that many hands logged)

Basically what I'd do is win some big pots wih sets/overpairs, then I'd lose big pots the same way, making me breakeven-ish/slightly winning as you can see from the graph. I was probably overplaying some hands due to not thinking about ranges for specific types of player. Equally I was sucking at small pots, not winning enough when I was ahead and losing too much when behind, but I didnt really notice this - I just thought I was running bad, getting unlucky in big pots.

So what did I do...Well I added alot more stats on PAhud. I just had the standard setting. Now I've added cbet, fold to cbet, raise cbet, attempt to steal. Agression by street and won when raise turn and river. Sure these stats are there if you click on the player, but I'm lazy and I think most other ppl are too. If they aren't there permanently I wouldn't use them at all. Just the addition of these stats has greatly improved my win rate. It greatly improved the way I think about the game, they way I assign ranges and note player tendencies so that I can exploit them.

Basically, I'm just noting to all you beginners firstly to get a HUD and PT, Once you get them, learn how to fully utilise them and the winnings will follow. How do I learn how to do this, you ask... Well use google, threads on this site, ask in IRC, 2p2 etc etc. Poker is a game all about learning never stop learning and dont get lazy, we can all evolve as poker players and get better - no matter what level we play.

I hope my first long post didn't suck too much, k thanks. Ask any questions you want....

PS. I'll post a link to my 6-max PS set up pics for PAhud, if anyone wants the fil so they can use it theirself just PM me. Also a PT graph for proof of how greatly it effected my game, I'll refer to the point of adding the stats as my AHA moment lol. (Hopefully it's just not a sick upswing lol)

Nice post Muzz. I dont utilize my hud nearly enough, and this post has really opened my eyes. For me its more about taking the time to look at the stats of the guy that im in the hand with instead of betting like a robot. Every situation is different and should be treated as such.
    Thanks..
Try not come off as such a douche next time.
