Default Newb intro + questions about software, bonuses, game types,

Hi! My name is patrick. I am brand new to poker. I got started on this journey a few months ago when I stumbled across a free "make $300 a day" roulette book. It was more like lose $300, btw. But it got me started thinking seriously about gambling as a source of extra income for the self educated. My grandpa used to win consistently at poker. I'm pretty sure that money was where my early childhood christmas gifts came from.
I've been studying, reading the forums and such, I have a slansky book, and would like to make a $50 deposit at poker stars. There's only so much you can read, y'know. But, when I look at the tables at PS I get scared. These people are mainly playing 6max. Slansky did'nt mention that in my book. They are also playing incredibly fast. 60+ hands per hr. It might as well be 60 mil to a guy who is'nt even sure he's counting his outs correctly, does'nt know if math is more important than your read on another player, position, heads up, etc. To be able to do this stuff and do it fast seems intimitading I'm not afraid to admit that. I'm a newb and the more I look at this game the harder it gets.
I know there's some real nice software out there. Don't know how to use it. Don't even know for sure if an odds calculator without a read on your opponents is really a great way to go. The ones that offer a read on your opponnents will obviously up your game, but I can't afford one of those. I got bigspendas use of the hand history on PS her, though, so if I make it rich you know who to blame.
Also, I've heard that at .10/.20 fixed ring hold'em ( a game I would feel comfortable with, full ring), you can't make enough FPP's on PS to clear a bonus. Is this true ? Maybe one of you guys know. Maybe I should just wait and save up more money so I can play .25/.50 ? Kind of a moot question as I'm rambling at this point, I'll just pick a table and start going from there.
Anyway, I'll be tuned in on where to go from here and let you know how it goes once I start depositing and playing some more poker.

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS 07

    Welcome
If you are planning on depositing only once- I would suggest holding off on that deposit and geting a little more comfortable with online play first. Play some freerolls and see how long you can last(although freerolls are filled with complete idiots, it still is a good way to get comfortable with online play)

Deposit once you are comfortable with the play and are able to count all the outs quickly and omfortably.

Definately get familiar with Bankroll Management. With 50$ deposit you are not rolled for anything higher then 2nl(0.01/0.02).
To play 20nl(.10/.20) you should have over $400 bankroll.
To play .25/.5 you have to have atleast $1k.
Now this is important, because even for a good player it is pretty easy to lose al his money by not following the Bank Roll management rules.
Take it slow and beat one level at a time and you will be playing the .1/.2 in no time.
