ChicagoKid's Journey: $50 -> $5000

I'm a come-and-go veteran of FTR, and I recently hit a good milestone in my "$50 -> $5,000" operation which I wanted to share with the group.

Prior the US poker "bust" last year, I was a solid $100NL and experimenting $200NL player. Obv., things have changed since then, and I wanted to get back to the basics and have some fun around the complications of moving money in and out of poker sites. So, where I used to bonus whore and deposit/w/d money all the time at over 10 different sites, I've settled down to put $50 in my bodog account and try to turn it into $5,000.

So, I started with $50 back in April at $10NL and micro SNGs, and I've been doing most of my work multi-tabling 2-3 tables since then. I probably only play 1-2k hands per week, so the going has been slow.

Now I'm in the middle of my $25NL tier, and just crossed the $1000 mark for my BR, which I'm pretty jazzed about. I've really hit my stride now at $25 (and maybe running a bit hot, too). Here are my summary results as of today:

$10NL - 17,500 hands at 14.85 bb/100
$25NL - 13,325 hands at 10.79bb/100

I think I need about another 5-7k hands to get my BR ready for $50NL.

Thus far, my step up to $25NL from $10NL was pretty controlled and solid, other than a couple cold sessions. In another month or so, I'll be starting to study up on $50 NL, as I get ready to wade in there. I'm trying to keep my expectations in check that $50NL will be a much bigger step up that 10nl-25nl. Not to be superstitious, but I should have known this post would haunt me.

I just finished a brutal 6 buy-in downswing session over 1500 hands. Absolutely, the worst session I've ever had. It seemed that every big hand I was getting in with 2nd nuts to nuts, or getting out drawn.

Among my big losses when AI on flop or turn: Set over set twice, nut straight outdrawn by flush (2 buy-in stack), KK rivered by AK. In all, lost set hands 4 times for stacks, none of which I slow played.

Gonna sign off now, I'm started gettin jumpy.

Well, as a update, the downswing continues. I'm now down 230 big bets since I posted my results on 10/29 (5k hands). I'm clearly coming off the hot streak I had at the end of the graph above.

Hard to admit, but the results are starting to get in my head. Still experiencing frequent river suckouts and top pr and dominating hands are getting outdrawn on the turn and river. It appears these results are causing leaks/variance (back and forth between overprotecting and underaggresssion) in my play of KQ and TT, and suited connectors.

Analyzed my hands and found some bad plays which I'm trying to focus on. I'm gonna post some hands in FR NL for a gut check and take a break.
