Help! My BR is growing faster than my skill (blah blah blah)

OK, so I've been playing poker since aroud x-mas last year and lost money on a wide variety of sites for few months until around May/June at which point I was winning marginally but occasionally blowing chunks of my roll due to tilt.

In mid August I had a huge tilt-fest of a week after learning of the death of a friend and finding out my missus was pregnant (unplanned) the same day. I blew my roll of around $800 down to $70 and decided it was time to sort myself out.

Just over a month later I have a roll of approx $5k and have moved from 1/2 limit to 5/10 and I'm only getting between 1.5k and 2k hands per week on average (maybe a tad more)!

Now if you are still reading this tripe(adoodles)...

I play at ongame where you can colour code players so I can spot a fish at the table just by looking at the name list. I rarely (if ever) sit down unless I can find a fish or two. I find myself at tables where one or two players might be better than me, but I still win enough off the table donator to make a nice profit.

Guess what I'm saying is that I'm really no better than average for my stakes but I'm still making alot of money. I will be moving up to 10/20 soon if things carry on like this but I see players in the FL forum who are clearly better than me playing at much much lower stakes. If I switched to stars I would get torn to pieces! If I cant find a relatively easy table I play 3/6 or just play MTTs on really dry nights.

I dont really know what I'm asking for here other than a little guidance from someone who has been in this spot before. Should I learn to beat tables without any major fish on them at my current level before moving up again or just search for fish at higher levels (yes, there are fish at 10/20). I havent read hold'em for advanced players all the way through yet but I doubt it will be able to affect my current game that much.

anyways...table selection is a KEY ASPECT of playing poker online. it is just as much a part of strategy as hand-reading is. it is part of the game. your primary goal should always be to seek out and destroy the fish.

Id say stick to your current level. 10/20 you want about 10k BR anyway.

I cashed $850 in an mtt on the 1st day of starting over with $70 which was obviously a tremendous help. I also casino whored another $1k. Other than the first mtt I'm proabably break-even on tournaments.

I dont plan on taking any shots at 10/20 until I have at-least $8k, even then I would probably move back down if I lost a couple of buy-ins.


Table selction is one of my biggest strengths, I wouldnt be anywhere near my current BR if I was playing tables full of "average" players.

I personally think your average 2/4 stars or full-tilt player could easily beat the 5/10 tables I'm currently playing. Even alot of the regulars are big donators.

I eventually want to move to another site/network because I just cant get enough hands in per-hour due to ongame's crappy software (more than 3 tables and you constantly get frozen/disconnected), the fact that the tables are 5-max screws things up aswell becuase games just break up too easily. I would imagine 5/10 is ALOT tougher at most other sites so I will probably have to learn 3/6 first after the switch.

Any recomendations for fishy 5/10 tables, large player base and bonus/rakeback deals?

if you move from ongame you'll struggle to find midstakes limit games as good and in such frequency.
Party is always an option, maybe i-poker and UB but those games got bad after the US bootout.

I'm just sick of grinding 2 tables for 3 hours only to add 300 hands to my database, I could get 300 hands in just 1 hour at Absolute and Stars.

Just buy a new laptop. I did and everything is fine now.

Jack, no RB on Tower but constant bonuses which are better than RB deals for SHNL players. Eurobet is only Ongame skin with RB but I think they stopped now for new players.

Yeah I started playing at Tower and my machine doesnt freeze, so upgrade ur equipment and you should go good.

Equipment is fine.

Most players complain of the same thing. Addons dont always work in rebuy tourneys either, and its hit'n'miss as to whether or not disconnect protect actually works if you get disconnected mid-hand at a cash table.

Worst software I have ever come across but the games are just too soft to walk away
