    Default Home Game Hand....Weird Hand

Alright if you have read any of my prior posts you know the guys I play with love to hate on me because I play more hands then your average joe. I used to think maybe they just truly thought I wasn't good but now I know they just love to hate.

Last night we start of with our $1/$2 game. Avg buy in at the table is $100 to start. We started 8 handed and the session is winding down after 5.5 hours of play were down to 4 handed (we got some guys who will not leave the table until they are thrown out...me included). I was at my peak about 45 min ago with $225 but my stack has dwindled down to $138 to start. Opponent has roughly $25 more. My image is one that plays a lot of hands, but doesn't make dumb raises, or dumb calls. If we go to showdown I'm winning 75% of the time. I steal the pots no one wants and I know how to fold big hands.

Alright opponent has been raising a lot since we went to 4 handed. Hes a solid player, he plays well, everyone likes him, but he does often overvalue top pair. So I'm in the SB he is UTG...but 4 handed UTG means nothing. He raises to $12. Now something very strange happened as when I went to look down my 8c got flipped up. So I asked our dealer, am I allowed to play this? He says yea, you dont get a new one. So I see the Ac along with my 8c and call the $11 more. BB folds.

Flop===(Pot=$26) As Jc 7c....I can't ask for much more. I checked in the dark to him (I dont usually do this). He bets $15. I make it $45 total. I told him becareful, if you put it all-in I'm calling. So he puts it all-in. Now I called and hit my 8d on the turn. But thats not important. He had AQo BTW.

I got berated for this call. Absolutley torn a part by one guy who is out to get me and the guy who just lost but he never insulted me. He was just saying "thats bad, thats bad...You have to know I have you beat". But I don't see how they can say anything wrong with this call. No doubt I can fold. Some players fold. But I don't think theres any doubt I can call and many people would call.

I put in----$12+$15+$30===$57. Pot is $25+$30+$60===$115. AND his push makes it $115+$81=$196...If I call pot goes to---$277.

Its $81 to call and I am 90% sure it's only AK or AQ. Now I have 3 8's I can hit, 9 clubs I can hit. A backdoor straight draw. And some backdoor split draws.

I am at the very least 44% to win this hand.

    Please answer---

How do you play this hand?
    Was my play wrong?
    Was it a horrible call?
    Do you call?

    Thanks in advance

You called a $12 preflop bet into a blinds only pot with Ac8c. You will be first to act.

I could probably get away from this hand here. It is heads up, the guy you are playing is a solid poker player, and you already have a reputation of winning pots you shouldn't. I think at a home game in particular, you might want a little better table image.

That said, the with a suited A-mediocre kicker is a playable hand. The flop is decent and one that you can play since you have a club draw. You warn your opponent you are willing to gamble if he shoves (it is still a coin flip at this point with a slight favor for AQo). If its late, a cash game, and you are willing to put all your chips in, I don't see a problem particularly since you are about even anyway and don't really need pot odds to make the call.

The fact that you backed into two pair makes it seem like a suckout, but they should just realize that happens. The guy should be lucky he didn't flop a set of jacks and lost to the flush, as that hurts a bit more.

I honestly think you played it fine, aside from not taking a different card than the 8c.

I think you played it fine. Aside from playing with the 8c when you didn't have to.

Yeah I don't think I would be calling the raise out of position when the villain knows half my hand. When that flop comes he could pretty reliably put you on 8x of clubs and play accordingly.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

Fold pre-flop after flipping over your card, it puts you at an extreme disadvantage.

After that, I have no problem felting top pair 75bb deep 4-handed.

Yea. I only called pre-flop because I figured that with Ac8c and the 8 showing the only hand hes putting me on is 88 or maybe 89. So if i see a flop with an 8 I'm representing a set and if I see something like 7...10...J I can represent the 89 not to mention if there were no high cards I was betting repping the pocket 8's.

I just figured that him knowing one card and that card in particular probably could have hurt him just as much if not more then hurt me.
