    Default 5-10 buy in downswing?

is this normal at full ring over 10k hands for a winning player? Whats the most buyins you have lost at full ring? I am very unsure if I'm playing bad or if this is just variance.

I don't play full ring, but isn't variance usually bigger in 6-max than fullring?
    What stakes do you play?

My biggest downswing was 5 buyins when I moved up to 50NL the first time, but some BIG leaks were the biggest reason for it.

Usually the bigger downswings are a combination of variance and bad play. 10k hands isn't that big of a sample though, so variance COULD be a big part of it.

Maybe you can post some PT stats, so the better players then me around here can help you out more specific.

variance is most likely part of it, and 5-10 buyins is common. Instead of just taking a look at stats, look at youre biggest pots won and lost over those 10k hands. I found that its not only variance, but me playing big pots really bad when im on a downswing. Not only am i spewing in big pots, but even a few of my biggest pots won are only becuase i sucked out or something.

I have had 12/13 buyin downswings 4 times. Since I moved to $100NL, I have had 7-buyin downswings 5 times (in under 30k hands!).

When you are in a downswing it is almost impossible to play optimal poker - of course, we need to strive for it, keep playing our A-game and ignoring misfortune. But only the most robotically disciplined manage to avoid bad play during these times, whether it's folding incorrectly through lack of confidence, chasing without odds because your last 15 draws have failed to hit, pushing over a lagg through anger rather than because you detect weakness, or taking TPWK too far because it's the first flop you've hit in half an hour. And that's before you get to sheer animal tilt - I have almost 200k hands under my belt and I *still* tilted off two buyins in 2 minutes the other day.

    Love me for a season
I'm building a new roll after cashing out and i'm back at $25NL currently. I ran foul for a few thousand hands but managed to play optimal poker because of the poor standard of play, but I would tilt more at $200 or $400 NL because play is obviously much less transparent. Running bad at $25 was kind of fun because it allowed me to gain confidence from all the correct folds I was making. I think by playing ABC poker again at these low stakes is sort of like relearning discipline, I'm sure as hell crushing this game more than I did when I last played it which isn't too surprising I guess

Anyway not sure how this post is relevant but yes my worst downswing was about 13 buyins around 3 of them were pure tilt. I don't think I could have more than a 4 or 5 buyin downswing at these stakes because it would have to be the sickest variance ever

My worst downswing is 10 buyins at 100NL followed by 6 buyins at 25NL.

The first 5 were shitty varience. The second 5 were terrible play. The 6 at 25NL was laughable varience. I have never been 2 outered/set over setted so often in 1 day.

Downswings are a time to check up on your game and see if you have leaks. Even if they are only small they are still worth plugging.
gabe: Ive dropped almost 100k in the past 35 days.

    Drinking your milkshake.
I was a 7Ptbb/100 winner for well over 100k hands at 25nl. About a year ago I dropped 13 buyins on Pokerstars in around 10k hands playing 13/6 poker against retards

it depends on how aggressive you play, too. the more aggro, the more 10 buys is possible.

but no doubt you are also contributing as well.

take a break, or power through...its up to you. but i would definitely tighten up a bit, get a bit more passive, and see if your "luck" turns due to the cards.

and by tightening up, i dont mean forever. i mean like 2k hands, or less.

if you are like me. you go on a bit of a heater, and open up too much...thus, bringing on the cooler by playing bad cards and no longer getting lucky with them. so, i tighten up until i see that my "bad" luck has started to turn...then, its back to a more normal range.

5-10 buy in downswing is possible, but be sure that it is a downswing rather than playing badly. If you are a solid winning player I wouldnt worry too much about it, but if you're down 10 buy ins you need to move down a limit and rebuild your roll. Its nothing to be ashamed of, I think many winning players have moved down one or two limits a couple times when running bad.

Just keep playing winning poker and ride the wave.
