Default Finally starting out with a real BR. Any suggestion?

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I learned to play poker about 3 years ago and have been trying to improve ever since. I have never been able to play very much because of money and time issues. I usually play on UB and Stars in $5 sngs and tourneys. I have made two final tables and cashed several times in MTTs in the past year. Last year I finished with a profit of about $350. I have read HOH1 and 2, as well as many of the articles on this site and I feel I am better than most of the people I play at my level. I am usually a tight aggressive player but sometimes I make stupid moves that go against my reads.

Next month I am going to make a deposit on Pstars of about $275 and will strictly play $5.50 sngs and tourneys (50 buy-ins). I want to see if I can build this to $1000 by the end of the month and possibly suppliment my income after that (I only make about $1200 per month as a waiter at Olive Garden).

Does anybody have any suggestions about how I should manage my money after a significant win or any info on which tourneys I should play? How often should I expect to cash or make a final table?

    Thanks for any advice.

Hi and welcome to FTR, it's good to have you here, thank you for delurking.

Sounds like you are already off on the right track. My best piece of advice would be to post hands in the appropriate forums (I usually live in the SNG forum) and take the feedback on board. In the SNG forum we're also happy (time permitting of course) to review whole trimmed tourneys to give you feedback.

Concerning BR management, since you seem to know what you are doing, 30 buyins is sufficient for the $5.50 and $11 SNG games (I'm not sure about MTTs). I would play the $5.50s until your BR hits $330 then move to the $11s. You might also consider playing turbos since a) the hourly rate is higher and b) if you are good at push/fold strategy then turbos get to that point faster.

Also re supplementing your income, whilst that's always a nice goal, make your first objective to improve your game. Continue making the right plays over the long term and the money will come.
