Useful Advice
Ive recently moved up in stakes in the last while and to be honest i was struggling. I moved up from 1/2 to 3/6 No Limit Holdem and I was just aboout breaking even propably slightly down.
I couldnt seem to figure out why i wasnt being successful.
I had a chat with my Dad who used to play $30/60 Limit Holdem and $75/150 7 Card Stud so he knows a thing or two about moving up stakes. He said he couldnt really explain to me how to beat the game in particular unless he had played at the stakes for a few hours. This was not an option as he hasnt actually played poker for 8 years so he told me to be very aware that in some respects people at those stakes overvalue there hands far more than at the smaller stakes. He tried to explain to me the value of just calling instead of raising propable marginal edges on the flop and turn. He explained that as long as i had the bankroll to play the game and the ability to recognize an opponent who will frequently overplay his hand through being aggressive i would propably be a long term winner at the stakes. This just seems obvious advice i suppose but i always keep it in the back of my mind now when i play and to be honest it really has improved my game.
