    Default Stats

Hi guys, I'm new here but love the site. Please could you explain though what stats like 20/10 and the like are? I've seen people bringing it up on this site and don't know what they mean when they say he was 20/10 or what have you?

    Thanks

Puts money in the pot preflop (limp, call or raise) 20% of the time and raises preflop 10% of the time.

It gives you an idea about their range of hands. Someone who is 75/1 for example plays a lot of crap hands (plays 75% of his hands) and only really raises AA/KK.

The first stat are what most people use to get a read on what starting hands they are likely to play and when.

    40% Loose
    25% -> 40% Slightly Loose
    25% Tight

If you use poker tracker you can get a rating per player, eg Fish, Calling Station.

    25% ain't tight - it's borderline tight at 6max but semi-loose at full ring.

    Hi Biondino,

Have you got guidelines for tight, loose etc. As think mine may be slightly out of line.....

    I play 10-seat NL.

Less than 15% is nitty, very tight.
less than 18% is tight or fairly so.
    18% to 28-30% is semi-loose.
    30%+ is loose.

Thats an idea, but we'll all end arguing over the exact numbers anyway. They're only meant to be approximate values.

Miffy is about right - I'd maybe adjust a % or two but that's pretty much spot on.

I would advise a relative newcomer to aim for stats in the tight band. Under 14% and you're losing value and becoming too predictable; over 18% and you're playing marginal, drawing hands which require a fair bit of skill and experience to take advantage of.

Having said that, a more worthwhile list of %ages would be position stats. For example, someone with a VP of 18% maybe playing 26% of hands on the button but only 10% UTG, with a roughly straight line between the two. If you played 18% of hands in every position you would be giving up a LOT of value in position and getting yourself into losing plays out of position.
