The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing
If your in this forum, your admitting you need help (Or admitting you like to give help). I won't deny it, I need help with poker all the time. I recently was reminded of this quote;
"The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing."
What does that mean to poker?
Well, you can read all the hand histories you want, read all the stickies, analyze every post thats here. That will only get you so far.
You can have the best day of poker in your life, you can double your bankroll in a few hours when you get lucky in the 3 45 person SNG's youve got going.
The problem with these is that youll never learn as much as you will when your losing.
The AJ offsuit you just called an all in with early in a tournament, and it cost you $10, that will hurt. but you will learn (hopefully). That 10 dollars you just "wasted" just bought you a valuable lesson. Sure, you just read the same hand in a hand history, and u saw the guy get torched by members. The difference is that the AJ u just lost $10 on will stay with you for a long time. Everytime u see a guy all in early in a tourney and youve got an AJ offsuit, youll think "i remember this, i blew it huge". You wont think about the guy who got flamed.
Also when your losing early in your career its very easy to get upset. One of the biggest things ive learned through losing is the knowledge that youll lose all the time. Its enevitable. Today i lost $50 because my aces got cracked on the bubble twice. Am i mad? no way. Am i upset? no way. I got aces on the bubble twice, and i got action on them both times. in fact i might be the lucky one when i think about it.
Now to the real point. The only real mistake youll make is getting upset that your aces got cracked. Youll be PISSED that you lost that $10 on AJ. The point is you need to learn. next time u see that AJ situation youll know better. When you get those aces you wont think (well, ive lost with them twice in a row, maybe i should play them differently)
Play; learn; progress. Everytime you feel you havent learned anything from your successes or failures, you have failed yourself either way.
