I am ChicagoKid and I think I have a problem...

I sometimes think I forget to let people hang themselves. Anyone check vs. lead out on the turn here? I thought he was pot committed, but instead I left a lot of chips on the table...

Me thinks he was on QQ-JJ and the K probably would have killed anything you did ... unless you checked making it look like you were on TT-QQ yourself. So maybe a check would have kept this one going.

But hey, what do I know ... I hit AK FH with a similar flop (except the 5 was an A, turn a K and the river an A) and villain had 6 6 for quads. You just never know.

Because it's a good play if you subscribe to it ever being correct to open-limp in your game.

I open limp a lot. I just don't subscribe to winning small pots with AA because I am afraid of flops.

I guess its ok as a 5/10% mixup or at tables that are super aggressive (e.g. all-in) preflop a lot, or in a tournament with large blinds.

I don't think that your play was bad here. He just called a $21 bet. Why would a $16 bet scare him off now? Even if he has QQ, JJ, TT, and he thinks that you have AK, he still needs to call because of odds.

I mean, what other choice do you really have? If you check, he's just gonna think "wtf?" and check behind and then fold on the river when you go all in.
If you bet something like $8, he's going to think "wtf?" and then you have two situations. A) He'll call you, and then call your all in on the river. However, with this situation, he won't believe any bluffs that you put on later, as you have shown that when you have the goods, you don't bust out betting. B) He'll fold, and that result isn't any different from what you have now.

Once again, I really can't think of any hands other than maybe 77 or 88...maybe 99 that can call your flop bet and then fold on your turn bet. I can't really understand his fold otherwise. You weren't going to get more money out of this by playing this another way.

I open limp a lot. I am ok with the fact I often make this weak play but don't even attempt to protect my limps by occasionally limping a huge hand, because I read on a poker forum somewhere that it's always a bad play.

btw open-limping, err, scratch that, limping in general sucks. I won't say that I never limp, or open limp for that matter, however.

Lukie, don't you think you're taking that 'sarcasm criticism thing to prove a point' a little too far? You are starting to seem very bitter here.

There is nothing wrong with what Renton said imo. I mean, it's a bit of a stretch to think everyone but you is indoctrinated by FTR standards without any understanding why. Playing his premiums fast 100% of the time and still open limping certain other hands can very well be a strategic decision.
