    Default HI everyone

Hi ppl , ive been reading the site for a little bit and finally got around to signing up. I've never really been into poker but after seeing one of my coworkers quit and go full time at it i had to give it a try. I'm enjoying it now, but my bankroll really isnt. I've already used up my instantbankroll money on a few bad beats and a little blackjack craziness. So tomorrow I am investing 100$ and going to try again on a serious note. Any suggestions of what I should play in accordance to $100 starting point? I prefer SnGs but honestly dont get far with them except on play tables. My 6max ring games seem to turn me out ahead moneywise but thats strictly in the fixed game type.
I've read super/system2 and it was pretty good, helped me spot alot of trouble situations, it killed me in the aggressiveness part because in the low limits it seems everyone and their mom will call your AI pocket Ks with anything. Anyhow just wanted to say hi and thanks for the great site.

play the lowest buyin SnGs you can find until you start turning a profit. Also quit the blackjack. As a poker player your goal is to only ever make bets with a positive expectation. Every time you play blackjack you are doing so with a negative expectation. If you think blackjack is fun then go ahead and play some but keep it seperate from your poker bankroll.

    Goodluck and Welcome to FTR

    Hi Dave, welcome to FTR.

When I first started playing poker online, I played microlimit ring games on Stars and the 1.20 SnGs. If you feel you need to work on your game and get used to online poker, then I suggest depositing into Stars and trying those out. After you're used to the interface and the game and after you've made a few bucks (say you get your roll up to $125 or $150?), try out the $5.50 SnGs. I personally liked the 2 table SnGs, and I built my $100 roll up playing those.

I would probably stay away from 6-max ring for now. If you like SnGs, there are lots of options for you with a $100 starting bankroll.

Post hands and read as many threads as you can. We're always here to answer questions, so ask ask ask! If you haven't already done so, read the stickies in this forum, in particular the bankroll thread.

    Good luck!

I the Stars interface with a passion.

Definitely try out the 1.20 SnGs at first. Don't forget that play money is one thing, real money is another (although the beginning stages of the 1.20 SnGs are pretty similar to play money, lol). Don't forget to post lots of questions

i can definitely do that, and yeah i noticed the diff between play and real, its not as easy to trap and the guy with the pair of 8/10 o wont go all in on an AA10 flop

I too play on poker stars and love the interface. Its just so easy to find what your looking for and it doesnt look cheap like most other sites. They have a lot of options for newer players too and there are always plenty of people playing smaller stakes.

Ring games, I'm assuming? I admit that I don't like cash games there, Stars is all about tourney poker. Then again, I don't like ring games in general ...

*Awaits torching*... PartyPoker's low stakes NL ring games have also got considerably tighter over the last year.

Pokerstars is by far the best *site* but the games there are much harder than anywhere else ive played at so far.

well, playing tight at party was killing me, i'd end up busting out in around 5th or 6th due to lack of cards, or getting called down/boned when pre flop raising good starting hands (that dont stay good to the river).

I havent tried it since they changed the system, though.

If you're playing tight at low buy-ins you will win in the long run. You may not be raising enough preflop and getting a lot of callers and that's why your K's, as you stated in your first post, got busted. Low buy-ins are to be played very tight and patient. Keep at it and start posting hand histories. You may be wasting a lot of money and the folks at FTR can help you prevent that.
