    Default Value bets?

I've heard the term thrown around occasionally, and I'm still not exactly sure what it is.

From what I gathered online, it's a bet that has +EV from the possibility of a fold, but then also has the possibility to win against a weak hand with a call.

If someone has an example or more detailed explanation of value bets and where they really come into play, I'd be very interested.

    Thanks for any advice.

Value bets are bets you make often on the river card when you hit your nut flush or straight that are designed to get called by you opponents. A vaue bet is basicallya bet that forces or gives odds to your oponent to make the call with the second best hand

There are many reasons to bet. One of those reasons is for value.

You have the best hand and you want your opponent to call.
I don't know what they have to say
    It makes no difference anyway.
    Whatever it is...
    I'm against it.

Yea its a small bet you make to try and squeese maximum value out of the hand because you think that your opponent suspects you have a better hand then him.

Or its a huge bet you make because your opponent thinks you are bluffing
It doesnt matter a big a bet it is....
A value bet is just a bet that is designed to be called by more hands that you will beat than hands that you will lose against at the showdown.

You can also value bet draws. If you KNOW that 7 people will call (and not raise) a flop bet when you have Ahxh and 2 hearts are on the flop then you will be giving yourself 7:1 pot odds when you are only 4:1 against making your nut flush on the next card. This would be a value bet because over the long run you will make money for it by people calling.
Bets which are not value bets include when you bet as a bluff or to narrow the field so you play your JJ against only 1 opponent.

Alright, that helps a lot with my understanding, I've been making such bets a lot recently to string along a lot of donks with TPTK on a low flop and they just can't lay it down by the end.

While I don't manage to destack them, I usually can cripple them to 3/4 of their stack with far confidence that they'll be calling all the way with the second best hand.

Maybe not getting ALL my chips in while I'm ahead, but I still have to spend a lot more time adjusting the size of my bets and what will be called before I can manage to destack someone and force them to make all the calls.

Thanks for all the input so far guys.
