Default Under pair to a paired board

Lets say the board shows 9s,Ah,Ad
You hold 3s,3c and had limped in. 3 +/- others in the hand. How do you play this? lets say from the button.

Check/fold. If I thought I could buy the pot I would, especially being on the button. However, with 3+/- people in the hand, that becomes unlikely I think.

C/F with this particular underpair and this particular board.

885 when I've got fours is much differrent. I'll bet that every time, esp. headup versus a guy who raised PF

Are the fours relevant? Or would you do the same thing with any pair: 77, 66, 44, 33, 22?

You should usually fold a low pair with the board paired with A's K's and Q's. when the board has lower pairs it is less likeley they have that set.

It depends on how aggressive you want to be. I think if it's checked around to you on the button, throw out a bet. If you are called or reraised, then look to get out.

I understood that. I just wanted to make sure LeFou's switch from 3's to 4's on an 885 board was unimportant.

    yeh ... unimportant

of course everyone realizes the difference when your pair is lower than the onboard pair but higher than the other card -- e.g. fives with an 884. Always nice to catch the Axers when they hit those.

I'm pretty fond of paired boards in live play 'cause it seems very few people can successfully mask their trips.

Thanks everyone, I was thinking I would bluff at it but as lukie points out thats not a good idea with 3+/- others. Lefou beat me to the punch and offered alternative boards and the were where the underpair is more likely to be good. My aggression currently gives me trouble I need to have more "selective aggression" not just "raw aggression". well played.

Why is no one asking what the pre flop action was like? With 2-4 people to the flop with you, the liklihood that no one holds a third ace is very slim. Check/fold. If you bet this from the button tryign to steal you are too likely to be smooth called or check raised by the person with an A in their hand.

Also, watch out for the blinds, as they may well be holding 85 or similar.

Because he told us. You limp in w/3 others.

The blinds can flop a monster on any hand that's limped. It's no more an issue with a paired board than with any other flop.

Guess the limped part didnt register for me when i first read this thread, doh . And that second quote wasn't by me .
