Default Just got poker tracker, and my mind is blown

I have been lurking here for a long-ass time, it's probably been over a year, but probably more, and just doing that has helped my game a whole lot to the point where I could enjoy some upswings that were bigger than my inevitable and frustrating downswings. I am 19, getting my first a place by myself and dont go to school, so besides work, all I really ever do is read books and play very swingy break-even poker lately. I re-read everything I could find here that had helped me approach things in the right way before, and in addition to that I dropped some scrilla and got poker tracker and started jamming it with my party poker stats.

As of right now i have 2700 some hands at party, all since 9/12 when I downloaded it. I have played more or less at the same rate all year over at pokerroom, but I dont have those histories. I play mostly 6handed, but as of right now I am up for advice on what to play.

Really long post, sorry, but i want to make my first post seem significant, getting to my question.

I have some questions about some of the stats I see in pokertracker

first of all, to put things in perspective, my total profit in all these hands is only $146.

I am down 106.15 from the button. this sticks out a ton, because shouldn't I be making money here?

Also, I am in the nagative in pots with a high card, pair or two pair, but once I filter it so that it only looks at hands I dont fold, they are all positive, except 2 pair, which is even.

Am I folding too much? is there anything else that could be causing this? is this as odd as it looks to me?

i dunno, but thanks for all the help, and hopefully i will be feeling good enough about my own play to discuss more in the other forums.

Folding high card / one pair a lot is standard, since you are often beaten with them. I mean, how often do you play J high after the flop?

Anyway, you should be making money from the button but 2700 hands is a WAY to small sample size to say much. Check again when you have played at least 10k hands is my suggesiton. (Well it doesn't hurt to check on your button play. Going too far with your hands there or something?)

First off, welcome and nice first post.

Are you loosening your starting hands requirements on the button because it sounds like you may be getting mixed up in pots you shouldn't be in in the first place. Check out aok's Performance Poker post on Small Blind Sucker Punch. Applies to button as well.

    And also sample size.

can I assume that good, profitable players dont have losing stats with pairs/two pairs?

also, where are some good places to look for more leaks?

    Welcome in!

Someone mentioned AOK's Small-Blind-Sucker-Punch post. Read that, and when you're done, read ALL of AOK's other posts. This guy has a lot of WELL-THOUGHT-OUT ideas and perspectives.

You will make most of your money from the button ONCE you get a larger sample size. 20,000 hands is perhaps the minimum number of hands you'll need before PT will show actual patterns. 100, 000 hands before you should use it to analyze specific hands like how AQ compares to KQ. Right now, your loss on the button probably comes from less than 10 hands you misplayed.

What PT will do for you right now, is make it easy to FIND those hands. Post them here, and we'll give you specific critique.

If you have just got pokertracker, I recommend you get hold of either PokerAce, or Gametime+. They are both free and allow you to overlay pokertracker stats on the table in real time. It's a great help when multitabling to be able to see the other players VPIP and PFR%.

My perfectly decent, functioning PC gets all slow and hopeless when I run Pokerace while multitabling. Is this common?

Also, I can't figure out how to overlay Gametime+ stats. And the PT forums are actually so complex that I'd rather ask here for advice

    Gametime+ overlay:
    --Sit down at a table.
--Open PT and (if Party/skin) click the little poker-chip icon in the upperleft to import.
--Set your timer for 1 min or 2 minutes and start timer.
--Wait for the first import or two.
    --Open GT+.
--Click the "PLUS" symbol to add your current table. A list off all your tables in PT will come up, the most current one is at the top. Select it and OK.
BINGO...stats start appearing on the table.

    Bingo?
    I LOVE Bingo!

GT+ works on other rooms too -- PStars, Prima, more. Good stuff.
    I'm a know-it-all.

    No, really.

    hey EasyT,
I just got poker tracker too and am trying to get to grips with it. A couple of questions:
    1. Is Gametime easier to run and less taxing on your computer than Pokerace?
    2. Will these programs give you realtime data for tournaments as well?

I run GT+ on my P4 laptop, and I don't see any difference when I run it.
I've never run Pokerace, but I think I will, now that I've read about it -- it looks good.
I read that Pokerace does do MTT and SNG info.
For a quick fix without GT+ or Pokerace, PT has a TournyTime feature built in that runs in a separate window, rather than as HeadsUpDisplay.
    I'm a know-it-all.

    No, really.
