How to play this situation?

Ok, this scenario is very annoying and im really not sure how to play it at all. This applies to fishy tables where there are like 4 and more callers on avg outside the blinds..

Lets say you start in the big blind with a random hand, 82o, and the flop comes up as 82J with 2 suited cards. You dont have position and i dont like going for a check raise (in case there is no bet to raise!) so i usually bet out the pot or 3/4 etc...

What gets me is when say, you bet and there are 2-3 callers and the turn brings that third suit to complete somones flush. You dont have position so if you bet out again, the size of the bet will have to be fairlly large thus paying off to some extent the flush people.
However, if you check, you are showing weakness at first but also more annoyingly, (and this is my main point), you let the straight draws and whatever else get a free card!
By the river you're stuck in a place where you dont know if they have a flush or not, dont know if they have even a pair, or anything at all!!
Im just really not sure what the play is in this situation and would love if you guys could enlighten me

well, heres my point of view: if you are out of position (which is the case im treating here) , you should bet the pot indeed, because many tight players will fold their flush/stright draw if you bet the pot. If you do have many callers and a third suited comes, dont worry about giving free cards at this point cause if someone has made a flush you will see high bets and you know you have been beaten at this point. If no suited card comes bet the pot again and see what happens. See how the people react (depending on the turn), and try to take the pot right there because if you have agressive/loose players in the pot you might get owned by a better 2 pair then yours hit by those players on the river.

Hope that helped and make sure you understand all ive said is for early position only, cause in late position you could have time to analize the players and lay this hand down early game.

Sometimes, not always, and especially since you're out of position it make sthis more difficult, but if I feel I can, I'll put a smallish feeler bet out there. Not a min raise, but I'm not making a huge bet at this point, maybe representing that I'm slow playing my straight, or whatever you feel your ops are drawing on. Its kind of buying information. Do they fold? Do they reraise? If they fold, good I win! If they reraise, I know they hit and can fold with relatively small losses. If they call, it makes it a little more difficult.

I play with a guy who frequently wil call a turn bet hold 1 card of the suit, or of the straight just hoping to finish it on the river, so this is more difficult if they just call. This might work some for you if you have a decent read on the style of your ops. If they hit on the turn and you raise, will they reraise?... etcetera. Again, make it a pretty healthy raise so you're not announcing to the room, "Hey! Just wanted to buy some information off you! Did you hit?!" However, dont' put a huge amount of money in so that if they did hit, you can cut your losses and lay it down.

This works for me quite a bit of the time, but not always.
