Confusion over 'outs'

    Default Confusion over 'outs'

Im not sure i understand all the examples of outs shown here:

    http://www.flopturnriver.com/start_pot_odds.html

It says there are 15 outs for a straight flush draw....

Im working that out to only be 2 outs?

For example, i hold Jd10d, the flop is 8d9dAd, so i need either the 7d or the qd to make my straight flush - 2 outs. Am i missing something?

I understand the example 'flush draw + gut shot' which shows 12 outs: the 9 cards left to make my flush plus the 4 cards left to make a straight (- 1 which is already included in the outs to make my flush) so 9+3 = 12 outs. I am reading the example 'straight flush draw' to mean the number of outs left to make an actual straight flush and not the outs left to make a straight OR a flush - is that correct?

    Thanks

You're assuming that all the straight cards and flush cards are good outs (a flush/straight card won't make a better flush/straight for opponent), 9 cards of a suit plus 3 or 6 straight cards (make sure not to doublecount) for a total of 15.

Similarly, a Royal Flush draw is not a one out draw. ;]
