Default Online Poker Vs. casino play

Im curious to see how people feel about each side of the arguement. Now my question is which takes more skill? Im not taking one side or the other, because I know little about online play. I was just consittering the following: In casino play you have to be careful not to give physical tells. You must keep a poker face, and you have to watch what you say. Experienced players will read you like a book if you aren't careful. Now in online poker, you can't make calls or reads off of physical tells, and you must base you reads apon betting patterns.

Im am just wanting to hear peoples oppinions, so please skip the trash talking. Thanks

i play tons of live play and i definitely think online is harder. i usually have a solid read of a player within 3 or 4 orbits live and its a huge advantage to work off physical tells - especially with fish. theyre easy as hell.

online there arent the same fishy tells and you might lose some money when turning into calldown mode cause you cant definitively say that youre behind.

my live $$/hr is wayyyy higher than online/hr. per table anyway.

    himself fucker.
    Poll is fundamentally flawed.

They both take a different set of skills.

I believe online is a more difficult egg to crack, though.

Online is a more intellectual game I think - you have to go off betting patterns and it really makes you sharpen up your analytical skills and ability to read the board. In live games you can get away with just playing the player more often... you can feel when people can be pushed around. That's certainly a skill in its own right, but not as intellectual of one.

I played online poker for a couple weeks, I didnt to to well. I think it is because it is a way different style that im not used to, because i constantly am playing live. But when I cant help but notice people that I know, that go to the casino, and come back with nothing, but they are up 5 grand on their online account. He started playing live games way befor the casiono games, has more expierence in live games, but he has been making money online since the first day he started. Any clue why that could happen?

Have you seen any account statements? Many people overestimate their winnings.

Maybe not exactly 5 grand, but i know he is up alot. Well at least what I consider to be alot. But I know that he has deffinatley won alot more off of online play than he has with casinos, and he went into online play with only live game expierence. That just makes me wonder how online could be harder. Im just looking for answers, I am curious to know why that might be.

I could see that happening if he has tells that show in real games but don't online.

A 1/2 live game in a casino environment is generally light years easier than a .5/1 or .25/.50 online game.

Those are usually the lowest stakes that are at a casino, thus weak players can only start there. I hit up a 1/3 game at Viejas in SDC this weekend and it was about as fishy as a .05/.10 online game. There might be one or two players at a table of nine that are paying attention to tells at an entry level stakes game so I think including that as a factor is a minimal effect, most players are just so bad its not even an issue.

The reason why people can make more money or a good amount of money playing online is that 1. hands are dealt twice as fast, and 2. you can multi table. Thus if you're four tabling and just playing ABC poker you are playing eight times as many hands in the same amount of time you would in a live game.

i call BS ... at the casinos, your not going to run into experienced players even at the 5/10 tables. you dont have to hide your tells, the majority of the players are mid aged guys gambling it up at the poker table, maybe later they will play craps, roullette or blackjack. nobody is watching for "tells", thats just silly... it isnt a million dollars at stake, your not going to get shot for sucking out on the river .. it just isnt professional play.

no need for a poker face.. nobody is even watching you, they keep looking at their pretty JT suited in the hole and getting giggly giddy like a school girl because its s00ted.

Another benefit for casino games that you don't see as often in online games is boredom players. Some jackass sits down, plays for 30 minutes and gets bored so he starts limping every hand, 30 minutes later he's raising every hand and making stone cold bluffs on any 2 all the time. That happens online rarely but most players will start reading a book or watching TV before they start pissing away money, not so in a casino especially when there's all the free drinks you can put away.
