Default Pre Flop Raises - Opinions please

Hi, i'd like some opinions / advice etc on how people play pre flop, specifically in terms of the raises they make.

    (i'm currently playing $10NL at pacific - .10 and .5 blinds)

From what I've read so far there seems to be a split between those who raise the same amount each time regardless of hand strength - this presumably being to prevent anyone getting a read on what they're raising with - and people who raise different amounts.

I'd be really interested in thoughts on this - it doesn't appear to make much difference in the games i currently play; the responses seem very random, either half the table will call a dollar pf raise or the whole (same) table will fold to a 50c pf raise (from similar positions).

I appreciate that position and reads on the table have a part to play in this but if people could give me some ideas on how they think about pf raising i'd appreciate it. (any tips for the micro limits will be considered a bonus!)

    himself fucker.
I'll raise 4bb-6bb. Usually sittin on 4. I don't change my bet to 6 becuase of my hand strength. I just change it when I think I can get a loose call and get a few more BB/100.

ok, presumably that's a sufficient amount (or range of amounts) to reduce the number of callers so you aren't bringing along too many people against your premium hands...or are you happy to outplay them post flop?

(i'm assuming that it's right to want to minimize callers with the top hands - maximise chances of winning / minimize chances of someone limping in with 78 and catching two pair etc etc etc)

the goal of raising preflop with your premium hands is to limit the number of callers to 1-2, and to get your money in when you have the best hand. If you raise 4x a few times and the entire table calls, try 6x. If you do that a couple times and everyone calls, do 8x. whatever it takes to limit the callers.

A funny thing i notice, in games like .5/.1, i think raising too much (say 10xBB) preflop encourages more people to call at a loose table than raising less.
i betcha that i got something you ain't got, that's called courage, it don't come from no liquor bottle, it ain't scotch
