    Default profit rate

    hey guys,

i'm trying to work out how much i should be making per hour so i can set realistic goals for myself as to what my bank roll should be at by the end of each week. I'm finding that i'll usually make around 1-2 buy-ins an hour, (at .05/.1 and .1/.2 NL). I think thats about what i should be making..

What have you guys found to be your average hourly rate?

and does it differ at different limits?
ie. would you expect to make less BB per hour at a $1/$2 than you would at a .1/.2 due to there being a smaller concentration of fish?

1-2 buyins an hour is insane. Your winrate will decrease as you move up in stakes. Even though you're playing micro stakes thats still huge.

...but what rate would you suggest!? Id also like to know, I've probably played about 100hrs ring lately after switching from SnGs but Im still not sure, I really should monitor it.

i always buy-in for max: $20 and 4table it, havnt a clue what I make an hr but id guess about $2/hr per table. does this sound about right? I dunno but my roll has increased from $50 to 350 playing .10/.20 6max nl in about 3-4 days - thank you FTR

What winrate would I suggest winning at?! Or what winrate is servicable?

As high as you can go! See if you can beat Ilikeaces86 old winrates of 20BB/100.

I'm running at about 27bb/100 hands at 200nl 6max, but thats only over 4k hands and i know it wont keep up. Nl statistics always seem so useless to me. By the time you've played enough hands to get an accurate rate you are way better than when you started keeping stats, or you've lost your bankroll.

so how much is a BB at 200nl - $4?

and at .10/.20 is the BB .40?

I'm at 11 BB/100, only 2.5k hands in my database so far though.

To be honest, anything positive is a good winrate, less than 10% of poker players are winning players.

Care to elaborate on this further, my PT database typically shows about 45% winners, i guess the rake makes up the difference.

To quote an old post from ttanaka:

Most people are idiots, that's why. Sorry, I'm being blunt but honest.

Let's start with 100 typical fish - point them to this website, throw a book at them.

Will they read the website or the book? Maybe. (50%)
    (down to 50 fish)

Will they comprehend what they've read? Possibly. (Another 50%)
    (down to 25 fish)

Will they actually practice the things they've studied? Unlikely. (Another 20%)
    (down to 5 fish)

Will they correctly execute the things they've practiced and studied? Probably not.
    (down to 1 lone fishy)

And each day there's 100 new fish entering the pond. So, that's why there are so many poor players out there.

Also remember, most people in your PT database will have less than 500 hands. That is by no means long term and any fish can come out positive after 500 hands.

Don't worry, I made the same mistake too when I was a newbie.

Just remember, in limit, BB means big bet. And in NL, BB means big blind.

Over a paltry 1.4K hands of 6max NL, I've a winrate of just over 20BB!
    If I had a hammer
    I'd drop in the morning

For limit AND NL winrates, it does.

You had it right in your previous post...at a .5/1 NL$100 table, the BB for BB/100 is $2.

cheers for your help guys.. from what you've said i'd say my 1-2 buyins per hour is probably inaccurate.. i dont have PT yet (damn this under 18ness).. i just keep as best records as i can with an excel spreadsheet.. once i factor in a hours per day of play rather than just days played i should get a better idea.

Yeah give it another 46k hands and things will even out. But its g00t to run g00t.

I two table when i play 6max, and occasionalyl throw in a full ring game on the side.

I just (finally) got Poker Tracker, and it tells me I'm running at 21.47 BB/100 hands. That's solid, right? Forgive my ignorance, I'm not very familiar with PT yet. If it resembles ilikeaces's win rate, it has to be good, I think.

Was also wondering about my other numbers and if they are good or bad for 6max:

    VP$IP is just under 40
    pre-flop raise is about 10%

It auto-rated me as loose-aggressive/aggressive... ha ha ha. I'm a tight full ring player but I guess I'm not very tight playing 6max.

How many hands have you imported?. Regardless I think that you seem to be a solid player who should move up as soon as possible. You do play 25NL, right?

50NL at the moment. I'd like to move up to 100 as soon as my bankroll is a little more supportive - right now I have about $1000 on Party.

That was based on roughly 10000 hands. (About half of those were at 50NL.) How many do you need for a true average?

    10k is enough to say you're a g00t a player.

You should probably treat NL25 and NL50 as seperate sets of data.

Anyhow look up your standard deviation in pokertracker.

If you want to know how many hands you need to play to know your winrate with 99% confidense within +- 1BB/100 then use the below

    Hands = ((3*SD)^2)*100/BB

    for 95% use
    Hands = ((2*SD)^2)*100/BB

divide the result by 21BB/100 to count out how many hands you need to ensure that you are a winning player for one of the confidense intervalls.
