    Default Freeroll Tourneys -> $$$

I'm definitely a beginner, so I've got a couple beginner questions that I'll put in separate threads so they don't tromp on each other.

I've enjoyed some of what CheckNRaisePoker calls "Freerolls". I've seen this term elsewhere, but what CNR seems to have that I haven't seen elsewhere is that Freeroll tourneys pay out in real money. I believe that the PartyPoker Freerolls only pay out in play money.

In any case, my dream would be to start playing small or micro stakes with zilch real money down. Crazy, probably, I know. Do other sites have the same Freeroll -> $$$ setup?

I like CNR fine for my level of play, but there is such a low population there that I'm sure it doesn't work for you guys. Is this only a promotion that CNR is using to try to catch up to the top-tier sites?

    thanks for your thoughts,
    -dunk

I would like to know this as well. Instead of depositing my own money and probably losing it, I would to win a freeroll and maybe start making real money in pennys.

I have heard talk about freeroll Sit and Gos which pay out very very little. But its a start. Is there still any of these?

Well, CheckNRaisePoker has some that pay out $10 to $25 to the ultimate winner, but of course that top prize is gained by beating 180+ other people

They do seem to pay out to the top 10-15 places, with the smallest payouts being as low as $0.60 to $1.00

Of course, I haven't cracked the top 25% of such a tourney yet, so the money (small as it is) is still quite a ways a way in terms of improving my game.

I suggest just investing. The variance in those freerolls are so high. You could play mathematically perfect poker for years before you even have a chance at making a starting BR.
Superb play sir...I always call 20% of my stack off with a gutshot draw. Excuse me while I race for my wallet.

Go create an account with www.Pacificpoker.com. They gave me $10 a couple days after I signed up (with no deposit). As long as they're still doing that, then there's your stake. They have .05/.10 real money ring games. You can take that $10 and go to town!!

(Legal Notice: Reading this post requires that you send 30% of all your winnings to me. Please email me for the deposit instructions.

any kind of freeroll like a "$5 giveaway, $2 giveaway" is going to be a crap shoot until about 75% of the field gets eliminated.

RoyalVegasPoker gives you a free $10 to start with, no deposit required. It also has a few freerolls every day , where first gets paid $215 or so. If you want to play with no real risk, then I suggest that as the place to start a bankroll so that if you win, you're permanently playing on profits. :o)

    additional note on royalvegas/freerolls:

royalvegas gives you a totally free 10 dollars 24 hours after joining.

royalvegas has a $200 dollar funded freeroll, totally free, at 7 am. first pays 55, 30th pays 1.40. 1000 dollar funded freeroll at 11 am, first pays 250, 80th pays 3 dollars. There is also one at 6:30pm, but you have to play raked hands to play in it.

Most places, freerolls aren't really free. you have to deposit money and play hands to 'earn' the money you already earned, royalvegas is good about that stuff.

Just as a tip: freerolls, it takes a long time to make a little money. i've only played seriously in freerolls maybe twice, both times i finished about 15th of 5-600, and i got all of 5 dollars each time, for playing for 3 hours. very not worth it.
i betcha that i got something you ain't got, that's called courage, it don't come from no liquor bottle, it ain't scotch
