    Default folding JJ Preflop

Yesterday on a 50nl table I was dealt JJ and the person before me went all in for about 30 and I folded my jacks.

Was this correct I had just sat down and had no read on the guy.

Nice avatar. You're a Steelers fan too?

It's a little cautious, but I think in your situation, you did the right thing. However, I culd also say that after being at that table for 3-4 orbits, you probably found you should have called or pushed all in against this guy.
I don't know what they have to say
    It makes no difference anyway.
    Whatever it is...
    I'm against it.

Usually fold. You're a coinflip at best and dominated at worst unless he's a lunatic, which you have no way of knowing when you first sit down.

I'd fold that every time in that situation.

However some would call and not be wrong, so there really is no solid right or wrong answer here.

    Wastin' away again in margaritaville....
Good fold... it amazes me how many people think they are playing small stacked at the final table of a WSOP event.

    I call, but there's nothing wrong w/ a fold.

    Here's why I call:

    1. He made a bone head play going AI for a pot of less than $2, so I assume that he is a bone head and capable of doing that with all sorts of crap. A good player never does that with a big hand in a ring game.

    2. It was only $30 and not even a full buy in. Even if you lose you prime the table up and they know that you give action which in turn will get you action later.

    3. I have come to enjoy taking coin flips in ring games. It's just more fun!

You'd be making a bad call.

You're either Way behind or slightly ahead.

You'll be a big loser in the long run.

What makes you way behind besides a bigger pocket pair? I'd call it if he had big slick too because neither will come on the board and you also have a chance of hitting three-of-a-kind. Was your hand suited too?

If his hand was suited, I would be calling for a mis-deal.
If you put all your faith in the river, you are up shit's creek

Experience tells me that the hands that are going AI preflop are slight dogs to JJ or huge favorites over (most likely).

It's a losing move to get all your chips in like this just becuase "you have a chance at making three of a kind."

That's a very fishy concept that you need to shed quickly.

poker is not a game of absolute strategy, it depends on too many things.

a tourist who is on complete tilt goes all in, you have 6,6 what do you do..

a pro player goes all in, you have 6,6, what do you do....

2 different answers here, for me at least, and probably many others

I'm a patriot fan and that always bothers me when people say that, the patriots aren't a cocky team, maybe the fans but not the jersey.

i am not cocky it is confidence.
I think the eagles can win But alot will have to go wrong for the pats for that to happen.

Funny thing is if you as an eagles fan how they can win it is the pats need to turn over the ball 4 times.

we held the #1 scoring offence to 3 points and put 40 up against the #1 scoring defense.

    I am just confident.

Good fold the only time I am going to call a all in bet with JJ preflop is is I was trying to steal with it and I have a large enough portion of my stack commited that I am obligated to call.

diagree but depends on the table limits...low limits, you often see low PP going all in to isolate and flip a coin for all the $$....people wouldn't raise a 1.25 pot $30 on KK, or AA....they would raise, but not all in on an unraised pot....i would have put the guy on low PP and called his all-in, and be a 5-1 favorite in the hand....
